Anyone out there with an E-Somethin Extra?

Has anyone out there done an Electric conversion of the Sig Somethin Extra? Last night I took my slimmer version of this plane out to the field and I didn't get to fly at all except for 4 dead stick landings 30 seconds into the flight. I'm starting to really hate glow engines!

Back to my question. If you have done a conversion, how does it fly. Does it fly like a funfly plane with good vertical authority or is it more like a sport plane?

TIA,

Wiz

Thanks Scott.

I did the search. I didn't like what I read. I'll keep the Webra 50 in that plane. I guess I'll just have to get all oily fixing the air leak in the fuel system.

I have an electrified TT fun tiger that is a slightly bigger and heavier plane than SE. It flies well with 16 nicad cells (2400) and an Astro Fai 40 with superbox. 6 minutes of flying whatever I like. tuomas

Mike,
Get the Electric Airshow 2 video from Radio Carbon Art and see how an Aveox F16LMR on 17 cells flies a Kyosho CAP Brietling (40 size).
I guarantee you that you could bolt that setup in your Somethin Extra and be happy.

Well, it looks as though some people are happy with their SE conversions. But as I look at the project I think I would be better off starting over than converting this plane.....there is a fair amount of oil in the wood. I think I'll fly it as a slimer the rest of the season and unload at the end. Then I'll use the proceeds to build a new electric replacement.

Thanks for the info guys.

Unfortunately my SE is out of commission. I was flying it at a football field and hit one of the goalpost uprights on landing aproach. It cut the left wing in half.

Its still sitting waiting for me to get in the mood to build a new wing.

Gerald, sorry to hear about your goalpost incident. Would it help any to hear that someone else has been taken out by a goalpost? That would be me. They always seem to be farther out than at first glance. Give it sometime, she looks like a great plane worthy of a rebuild. She will be back, I'm sure of it!

Hi Gerald,

I heard that you did that on another post a while back but this is the first pic i've seen. Wow, what a bummer that is!

Wait as long as it takes...the mood will eventually show up!

Good Luck!
