I forgot to mention that before i even install a propeller on the motor i made a test to see that the motor turns the right and way a friend of mine that was watching made a comment that the motor didn't looked to turn fast enough for a 775 Rpm/V.
Prior to that i had a Kontronik Kira 600-16 with a 6.7 gearbox and i am almost sure that at 238 rpm/V @ 24v (5050 rpm measured at the 15x13 prop) it looked to turn faster that the ZS3025-10.

Hi Chris
Just for information
Following my Scorpion Calc on close Scorpion S3026-12 (Kv 830 rpm/V)
On 3S LiPo (11.1V) and APC 12x12 E, we are around 50A 555 W , 6500 rpm
Static thrust 1700 gf
Pitch speed 33.2 m/s
Dave what about a Hyperion Calc ??

That was what i was trying to get also, around 50A Amps and a pitch speed in excess of 120km/h because i usually fly above 3000 feet.
Oh well i can try the motor with two 4S packs also.

Sorry to break in here. Just a quick question, does hyperion/SS have plans for anything in the 6kW+ range. In an old hyperion catalogue, which i was looking at the other day there was a 6527 if i recall and some other motors of that size, but obviously they haven't progressed on it. The 5545 scorpion just aint enough, but pletti predators are simply too much $$....I'd like to move up to 85-100cc and want to stick with hyperion as they've always been totally reliable. So whats on the horizon Dave?? Also whats happening with the higher cell count esc's or the 12S 200A job.

regards

Dave

My apologies to Hyperion.
I changed the controller to a phoenix HV and now it works fine.
With 11.5v at the ESC input the measured current draw is now 43A and the 12x12 APC prop rpm are 6930.
Still a little lower than computed but very close to be considered correct.
I think i had left the PWM settings for the kontronik Kira 600-16-6.7 motor in.

I've been so impressed with the the Gs3020-12 I put in my Art Hobby Ibis that I'm considering a ZS in my current project. For some time now I've putting together a Sr. Telemaster as a club towplane. I'm looking for about 2200-2400W on 10S swinging a 18" prop. I'm trying to decide between a ZS4045-12 and a Scorpion 5525-225. Other than a $30 price difference the specs look very close--within an once of weight, very close Kv's and power ratings.

It appears from the pictures that the 4045 only takes a collet adapter. Is that correct? No bolt-on adapter for a 3000W motor?

Ditto for all of Fire42's questions, I'd like to know as well! Right now I'm using the Plettenberg Predator 30-8 on 14S with a Jeti 200A ESC. I'm not completely happy with the ESC, it sometimes has problems starting the motor. An competitively priced ESC would be quite welcome from Hyperion if it could be done at a competitive price point ($500 range). Fire42, there's always the Hacker A100 motor, but it's really heavy for its power compared to the Plettenberg.

I can safely recommend to get the ZS4045, absolutely fine and very very efficient motor.
I use the ZS4020 for a 12lb+ airplane with a very high wing loading (38oz/sqf) and it fly it with authority.
They also run very cool.
I do have the ZS4045 and ZS4025 also which is enough for a 6-7kg (~15lb) plane i think.
I don't remember either seeing a bolt on adapter in the boxes.

normal for high quality motors due to the magnets

I didnít know that, I though perhaps the timing or something else needed some adjustment.

You can have a play with the timing and see if it improves, there does always seem to be some amount of stuttering, a lot of it comes down to a specific motor and esc combination. Some esc's will give an initial extra burst of throttle to try and overcome this and then settle down to the normal low rpm as set by the Tx stick. I find castle ice esc's particularly smooth when powering up my motors.

Does anybody know what is going on with Hyperion? The quality seems to drop and they don't respond to warranty issues and other questions.
