Which mega for my pylon racer

I am looking for 2 combinatrions:
1- on 8 batteries (kan 950), a motor that draws around 10 to 12A (no more ) on a 4.7 *4.7 cam prop
2- Same amps , but on a pack 3S2P of ET1200, which gives roughly 10V.
I am a bit puzzled with motocalc results...anybody has real computations?
lastly last question: is the phoenix 25 a good controller (reliable and efficient) for these motors?

I have the 16/15/5 and it is probably a little too tame for your target current draw. I draw 15.5A with an Aeronaut 7 x 7 Elektro Carbon prop on 8 HEcells (at 3000 ft). When I had a 5 x 5 on the motor, it seemed to draw under 10A (though I never did measure that setup.) It got 8 minutes of full throttle flight on 8 HEcells...putting the current at around 7-8 A.

I know the 3 turn is pretty hot, so my vote is for the 4 turn wind.

I used Motocalc to size the motor on my Nooner, and was very discouraged to see it predict so poorly. Motocalc predicted a "hotter" motor than what the Mega 5 turn really is. In retrospect, I would have gone with the 4 or 3 turn myself.

Overall, I am impressed with the quality of the Mega, considering its cost.

I don't have any personal experience with the Phoenix 25. I use the Hacker Master 18A contoller and am very impressed with it

Anyways, I hope there's some useful information amongst my ramblings. Good luck.

Here's some static data I have recorded:

16/15/4, 8x600AE, 5x5 APC-E prop: 11-12A

16/15/5, 8x600AE, 5.5x4.5 APC-E prop: ~9A

Also, I have seen the following data but haven't measured it myself:

16/15/3, 8x600AE, 4.75x4.75 prop: 15.5A

16/15/4, 8x600AE, 4.75x4.75 prop: 10.8A

So, I think the 16/15/4 is probaby the right motor for your requirements.

Motor: Mega ACn 16-7-7; 2450rpm/V; 0.047 Ohms; 0.9A idle.
Battery: Hecell; 8 cells; 1050mAh @ 1.2V; 0.0135 Ohms/cell.
Speed Control: Castle Creations Phoenix 10; 0.0013 Ohms; High rate.
Drive System: 4.7x4.7

motor calc gives this combo at about 12 amps
with a efficiency thats above 80% thats pretty good
i have the mega 16-7-7 i havent run it on eight cells
i have run it on 6 cells hecells and 2 series lipoly batterys
at with a little bigger prop 6x3
