Just from looking at the 163 you built it looks like its going to be a rocket. Should be a real balst to fly. I've never made a kf wing so I'm wondering does it really make a lot of difference? Thanks for posting the pics for us.

F-18 quick build

Started into the hobby with dollar store foam board, left the paper on as it seemed stronger.......... built the F-18 from http://rc.tomhe.net/fa-18
covered it with packing tape and it ended up at 330g / 11.5oz
Which i figured was way too heavy, so i made another one out of Depron 6mm
for a comparison, it weighs in at 4.5oz, with no electronics at all on either of them.
Im going to fly them both and see how it goes........ hopefully the heavy black version
using Dollar store foam will actually fly

That is true, I have a f-22 about the size of those f-18's it weighs about 700 grams with electronics and a 1000mah battery, but I fly it with a 2200kv 350watt motor... It flies, just not for beginners... starts stalling out below 45mph...

Then you throw on ailerons mixed with the thrust vectoring tail, and rudders... I can literally fly circles around the 3d guys at our field.

Next is a 24" wingspan twin 2000kv version...

Heres my older slow one... 450g AUW 1650kv with a custom 5x5 3 blade prop
Homemade RC F-22 foamie FAST! (4 min 24 sec)

Here's my latest effort with $ Tree foam. 28" LeadFeather Yak, 2 sheets of foam de-papered and laminated together with diluted Elmers white glue (first time using Elmers for lamination and it doesn't work as well as Gorilla glue) Graphics are sharpie marker. Motor/ESC -HobbyMate 2822 1800kv & HobbyKing 12a esc. Pulled only 5.5amps on a 7x3.5E prop and 500mAh 2s. Not quite enuff thrust to pull up from a hover, will try a 8x3.8SF next. Fun little school yard flyer and cheap, cheap, cheap...

I built a Hobby Lobby Yak-55 clone from single layer DTF. What is your AUW? Mine is about 12 oz with a 1130kv hacker clone, 9x6 prop, and 800mah 3s. Flew great. If it's not too heavy, try a lower kv motor on 3S. It'll shoot up like a rocket.

I would have liked to go with a lower KV but I already had all these electrics in the spare parts bin. I'll check AUW when I get home and post here:

UPDATE:

AUW - 7.1 oz
Flies much better with an 8x3.8 SF prop
