I've maidened my Simple design, made with 5 mm foam, and it flies just good enough with 2S and even better with 3S. Photos will come in tonight, let me finish up colouring the simple.

Hi KenChin, thats a great kite you you got there. That bird is like somekind of skysled the way it cuts throught the sky. I like the roll rate on it too. Mine don't roll guite that good, but it will do figure 8's in less than an 8 foot radius; go figure. Keep the kites and this thread alive.

Question on Building RC Kite

Hello,

This is great. I just got a wing to build and watched a video. It flys way too fast for me.

I would like to build a rc kite. But have no ideal how to go about it or where to get all the supplies and materials. Or what are good radio gear.and motor and battery.

Two years ago I was in a near fatal plane crash. still recovering. My wife said I could fly , but I had too stay on the ground. My reflexes are still a little slow. The kite would be a GREAT hobby for me to get into.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

I would greatly appreciate it

Larry

Hey Lazair2, page 1 of this thread has a good build or I can post the specs on my builds,
pics are on the same page. My builds are around 12oz so that I can fly in 8 mph winds.
Smaller kites are tricky to fly when the wind is blowing, but if you have an indoor
space or low wind they are great.

Here's a list for the parts that I like to use on my kites.
FMA chargers for charging and balancing lipos, the multi- 4 is a good $80 one.
Thunder Power lipos are good light batteries(910mah 3 cell or 1320mah 2 cell) I get mine from allerc.
Brushless motors from milehighrc
ESC's from Berg Castle creations just about everybody carries them, get the T-birds.
I like the Hitec FM radios, been flying them for years.
Spectrum 2.4 radios are good.
Dubro hardware like horns & control linkages.
APC slofly props
Good old umbrellas for covering your kites.
Weldwood contact cement for glueing the covering on.
Carbon fiber rods & Mercury thick CA glue from RC Foam, don't forget the kicker or accelerator.
(thats the stuff that makes it instant )
Spectra power pro 30 lbs test fishing line from Kmart or local tackle shop, for lashing rods together.
Well, that should get you started with a simple rc kite.

Not exactly wings, by definitely Kites. These guys are new to the RC world but have been in the kite business for some time. They were showing these at I Hobby and at the JR Indoor Fest. Fly on vectored thrust only and do a great job of it.

PremierRC.com Make sure and check out their videos in the Media section.

Hi DX,
Welcome to the hobby. What is a Nepron Rc kite?
I build & fly IFO's, which are carbon rod and ripstop
polyester fabric just like the one Dave builds here.
Here's my detailed site on building a 35"x 18" RC kite.
http://mysite.verizon.net/vze11fhh7/
You might want to post to the IFO thread we use as this
one is not active much.

Click on my RCG name and it will take you to my blog
where you can see me fly my IFO.
You might want to start off with just a 3 channel setup,
no rudder. Fixed vertical stabilizer is all you'll need.
Can always replace it with a rudder later on with little
trouble. The added weight of the rudder assembly is going
to factor into your flight characteristics. Meaning that the lighter
your kite is the easier it is to learn to fly.
That is unless you are planning on building something 36" WP
than go for the rudder and a pilot. The big ones will have
a slower roll rate so keep that in mind.
Let me know if I can help get you in the air.

Here's my newest addition to the kite fleet. This is made entirely from CF Tube and Rods of various diameters. A simple tie and CA method is generally used throughout the airframe but in certain location abit of epoxy will do a better job.

Instead of Ripstop which is quote costly locally, i use two cheap chinese kite material from a local DIY shop.

Very nice in the air, no bad habits except "DO NOT DO A HIGH POWER DIVE" and try to pull out... But otherwise it's a nice bird in the air...

My wife bought me some carbon fiber rods for Christmas because she seen me watching this forum. I have started it this week. What power system do you recommend for the dimensions posted in post number 1. that's what I'm going by since I'm not a plane engineer. I also like to buy from hobbyCity/HobbyKing so if you could reference to parts from there that would be amazing.

Thanks all for any advice.

As far as I am aware this is the original designer, I highly recommend them! You get plans, great instructions, and everything included.

Buying everything locally can actually cost you more then getting a kit. Surprised no gives credit to Dan for the original design......

So I say support the designer if at all possible. I have purchased all three kits from Dan and have used the plans to build numerous iterations.
