Gws Funny Park Balance Point

THIS IS A GREAT PLANE
SOME PEOPLE HAVE HAD TO ADD NOISE WT. I THINK GWS HAS THE BALANCE POINT WRONG. GWS SHOW 50-55 MM FROM LEADING EDGE THAT IS 1.97" TO 2.167"
I BALANCE ALL MY PLANES AT 30% TO 33% OF THE WING CORD.
THE FUNNY PARK HAS AN 8" CORD. 30% OF 8"= 2.4" OR 33% OF 8"=2.64"
I BALLANCED MY AT 2.5" BY SLIDEING THE BATTERY IN THE PLANE. I DID NOT HAVE TO ADD NOISE WT. THE FUNNY PARK FLYS IN STRONG WINDS OR CALM WINDS.

THANK YOU MR. GWS YO DID A FINE JOB ON THE FUNNY PARK.

with the help of a friend, we figured out my cg with no rudder servo, 8 cell nmh 720 ma pushed all the way up, to be 70 mm! Thats waaaaay off of gws recommended 55mm! Mine flew great. I still cant stop praising this plane!

Mighty close to Bar-Stool's 33% rule, though. Very interesting.

Yes Im seriously considering trying to fly it at about 65mm....I hate the way it flies at 55mm....whats strange is that it exhibits both tail heavy and nose heavy charecteristics.

I just posted on the previous thread, but mine balances out at 60-61 mm behind the leading edge with a 7 cell 720 mah nimh pack and flys like a champ.

Hey Foam,

Are you balancing upside down or right side up to find CG? It measures quite a bit differently on this plane. I'd heard that when measuring CG, the wings should be up top (so flip the low wing planes upsidedown).

Yes, Low Wing planes are balanced upside down.

Now this is the issue - the wing slants down at the recommended balance point. So using your fingers which Sean did is unaccurate.

You need to use two sharp tiped objects and place them under the CG spot to balance it.

With that said.

My Funny flies so nice. Better than E-Starter, and loops better than my Zero and is slightly faster. Also can glide.

Sean, keep trying, I know once you get it flying correctly, you'll like it.

I'm going to fly the Killer again later.
It's real windy now, but hopefully it will die down.

Here it is after yesterdays maiden:

LOL! Okay, so lemme get this straight so that we're all on the same page and balancing this the same way. <snicker>

CG on this plane should be measured:
1) while upside down
2) balancing from the wing not the cockpit area

So you'd be measuring while balancing the plane on both sides where the wing meets the fuse? If this is the case, then my FP balances perfectly without any clay at all!

okay, lemme post a sideways pic with points labled. I WAS measuring at point A, but it sounds like you should be measuring from point B. ...and then some were measuring from point C?

Sean, I have had 9 planes. My Stang is getting 3s Kokams, and I have retracts and was waiting for no snow on the runway.

I also got my A-10. I don;t mind waiting to maiden my planes. I set them up correctly and enjoy it that way.

Now to get back on track.

Your so wrong to be balancing the Low wings rightside up, all my low wingers are balanced upside down!

I just balanced my Funny Park on two chopsticks and measured the CG to be at 55mm 5 1/2 cm (2 1/4") with two 2s 1020 Kokams.

Mine flies great!

Foosky dont measure exactly where wing meets fuse, its a good idea to move out about an inch on each side. It makes no difference if you measure on top of wing or bottom as long as you are measuring straight from leading edge and not actually measuring the curve (camber) of the wing.
