Question

Great Planes Escapade

Has anyone bought this plane? It is a feature test in the new issue of FlyRC and looks very interesting, in that it is set up for both fuel and electric. Looks also to be a good platform for A123 battery. Anone care to offer input?

Escapade

I have one. Flown it two times. Too windy to really evaluate it. Really a lot of airplane for the money.

You bring up one of the questions I have about this plane. How windy was it when you flew? I'm looking for something I can fly in 10 to 15 mph wind in relative comfort. Did you go electric or fuel?

Escapade

Electric, Remfire 42-50-800, Rhino 3700 4 cell Lipo,12x6 APC prop. I believe that it can handle moderate winds but my flying strip is very confined and gusts give me a fit. Steady wind is ok. When I got the Escapade and saw how good it looked for the money, I ordered another because I believe that they will go up in price. As soon as rhe Horizon Taylorcraft caught on they went up on the price. i have one but it is not worth the the price they are asking for it. I got the optional cowl for the Escapade.Really looks good.

Here are some pics...with optional cowl for electric.

It does look like exceptional value at $99.US

It appears heavy at 5 lbs but the good thing is it should handle moderate winds better than a floater. Just land it faster..!

Looks like it could become a standard and if so..yes, the price goes up..!

I now have 5 flights on mine with no wind. Haven't gotten it just rite yet. Have been using a 12x6E prop. My Contender flies best with a 14x7E,so I,ll try that today. And,Yes it has to land fast.

Hi Henry. Nice looking plane, but does not appear to be an Escapade

Correct, Read the post again. It,s a Contender using a 14x7E prop. Later today I hope to try the Escapade with a 14x7E prop. Same motor as the Escapade.

That's the Contender, had one in the late 70's, kitted then by Top Flite.
Is that an ARF, who makes it.

I had one back then too, powered by a Veco 61. This is a new kit I built about a year ago but converted it to electric as I built it. It flys really good and I hope to get the Escapade to fly as well as it does. My second Escapade will be here today per UPS tracking.

Three more flights. This time with a 13x6.5E APC prop. Flies much better.Next will try a 14x7E prop. The wind was light and it was a real joy to fly.

I have been flying the Contender for around 2 years. Am about to get the Escapade trimmed to fly as good as the contender.

From your description, it sounds like you do have some air time with the escapade. Care to elaborate? I finally ordered mine only to find they are now out of stock till late March
