I don't know about KEDA motors , but you can get BW style motors from Heads Up RC or Fancy Foam :
https://www.headsuphobby.com/HURC-Br...ors_c_458.html
http://fancyfoam-com.3dcartstores.co...otor_p_35.html

And Fancy Foam has this stick mount often used with BW motors :

I just checked one more place , West Michigan Park Flyers ..... and they have a 1700kv BW motor that appears to be a KEDA :

And they also have the BW stick mount : http://www.wmparkflyers.com/Stick-Mo...Base_p_69.html

Ready for the Races

I've put together a few more racers for some friends. We've got a good number of planes now ready to race at this point.

I've had a Spitfire on the build table for a couple of years, it's about ready to go.

I got a hand me down motor, it looks smaller than the recommended Blue Wonder. I didn't weigh it, but I'm sure it weighs a lot less.

Power tests bear that out... With an APC 7x6E prop, 25C 900 mah 2S battery, I only got 30 watts at 4 amps. With the weight of 9.2 ounces, that puts me at 52 watts per pound. Probably not enough for this model, although I haven't calculated the wing cubic loading. Even with an 8040 prop I only get 40 watts at 5.5 amps, 69 watts per pound. Looks like with the recommended motor with weight around 8 ounces 150 watts per pound is realistic.

Knowing what I know now about the 3 watts per gram motor weight factor, weighing the motor could have helped me determine that it probably wouldn't be powerful enough.

Goofed up on the paint job by using latex full-strength... Dumb! I figured out when painting some new parts about a 60/40 mix latex/Windex provides the proper consistency for applying with a foam brush. No brush marks, and it works its way into the Foam pores. Perhaps some spray on primer might help to reduce the visibility of the pores in the foam. Weight when applying more paint is of course a consideration; probably why it weighs 9.2 oz.

I used the Behr samples from Lowe's.

Ken, I think you would enjoy this site, if you liked the P-47D in the CART / Rahal colors. A lot of great racing team colors on warbirds!

Definitely some talented artists on that site!

By the way Ken, I'll be heading back to the lake in Kentucky, in a couple weeks, and looking forward to breaking out my Sea BB 42" for its' 4th year of action. I'll make sure to give the thread a bump when I'm there.

Spitfire is ready...

Build info:
Motor: Suppo BL2208/12
ESC: 10 Amp Heads Up
Battery: GoolRC 900 mah 2S 25C
Prop: 7035
AUW: 10.5 oz
CG: 2.2 inches per the BF109 instructions

Max power: 46 watts @ 7.1 amps - this works out to 70 watts per pound. With wing cubic loading at 9.9 hopefully that will work. Dr. Kiwi shows thrust around the AUW.

I had to put .8 oz in the nose to get the CG right.
