I'm so glad I made these autogyros for the indoor events. They were an absolute ball at the SPEF event in Plainview, Texas this past weekend. Here's the event thread:

My heavier version is good for outdoors, but I really will have to build a lightweight one for inside.
How you manage with this model outside in the winds you have is beyond belief!

I am now trying CF rod on the TE as well as LE, and a stiffer rotor plate. Will post results.

Surely the pusher version is not far away?

Auto Night Flyer


My favorite church parking lot turned out to be the perfect place to test-fly my LED 2-blade rotor. Just a gentle breeze for a change. And no more orientation problems!

Just curious, do the "tail finlets" actually perform some function or are they strictly ornamental? This may sound like a stupid question, but lots of aircraft fly quite well without them, including gyros.
Very creative and your design looks good. I admire your courage in using a two blade rotor, I have always been afraid of them.

Chuck,

Are you referring to the fin and horizontal stab? They are there because I'm too lazy to make full-flying tail surfaces. The rudder (connected to the fin) provides yaw control, and the elevator (connected to the H. stab) provides pitch control.

Gary, sorry for the mix up. I was referring to the white single rotor on page three of this thread and somehow assumed you built it. I see now that it was Norfolk Flyer who built it. It is the features of this white gyro I was talking about. Thanks for responding.

Sorry; my bad!

I think those are there to increase the vertical area since the vertical stabilizer is short in order to clear the rotor.

It's calm today (happens maybe twice a year), and I'm at work.

Chuck, Gary, Correct!
And I have had problems with them warping after paint applied, giving me unwanted rudder input.
They are now red, and have now been shortened to start just forward of the stab. L/E.

Thank you John and Gary. Makes sense to me. Oh, incidentally, you don't have to tell me about the wind in New Mexico. I have never lived there, but have been there many, many times. It would be a rough place to fly a foamie!
