We maidened Brandon's Disser-tipped Aspire today.
He used the Airt 809's in the tips, and it's really responsive. It feels really light, but hasn't been on a scale yet.
I would guess it to be between 70 and 73 oz, but I haven't had my hands calibrated recently, it could well be lighter.
All went well, and it flew like well, an Aspire.

Aspire/latte' at Daybreak


My wife and me got up about 1/2 before daybreak and picked up a couple latte's and took the Aspire to the local flying site. By the time I got the winch set up, it was just light enough to launch. My wife chased the chute (man I love that girl) while I did about 6, 1/2 launchs to CG and adjust the landing set up. My Futaba 8FGA makes understanding radios and adjusting a snap. ..I then took about 4 full launches in the flat air and no wind conditions. Zooms are really zoooomy!! One thing that stood out in my mind was the ability to dial in a lot of full wing trailing edge camber and click in just enough down trim on the elevator to just keep the Aspire moving and twice I floated for over 12 minutes. Impressive to me for sure. When I got all the trimming and adjusting I wanted, I had a couple very nice flights, a couple 100 point landings, and enjoyed the latte's with my wife in the early morning fresh TN air. Thanks to Tom Watson for this model. I love the way you do things Tom. Thanks to The fnnwizzard for all his info and Mike Smith for Aspire tips. I love this model!! When I got home and checked my CG it was at 116 MM. Sounds like I'm right in line with the guys in the know on the CG. Brian

Well, I certainly love both of my Aspires. My Pike Perfect ET just sits and waits. It waits for the opportunity for when both of my Aspires are disabled and it gets a chance to play. But it hasn't happened yet

Me too!!!

That is what I want for my MKS's.... Are they available? Or did you make them custom, Fly-up85??
Also, what is on the other end of that solid carbon pushrod, at the flap?

Servo horns and pushrods are produced myself, if they were more interested in the rod can have them manufactured on a CNC milling machine. The lever is fixed to the servo worms M3. This system is very accurate dragged without which any clearances.

Your linkages are impressive but I am wondering if you have any problems with moving the pivot point on the flap so close to the surface. My guess is you get away with this on an electric model but it might be a problem for winching or towing. Nice looking ST Aspire. Larry

Pushrods for flap ,for aileron pushrods are straight . Although the Aspire F5J but it is not no slow flying model, the start fast like a rocket

By the way I inspected Tuomos ST Aspire in Bulgaria. Sweet..Light and very stiff... I will be very happy when the next shipment gets here. LJ

I am really happy with my ST. The day before contest we tested F3J launches in up to 6m/s launch. Wing bend was very small (like in c68) and plane was directionally rock solid (no problems with torsional stiffnes). ST is so close to disser that could do all my flying with the ST and double carbon. I prefer double carbon (or at least C68) if wind is strong enough for direct tows, they really stress the wing.

In Bulgaria I also tested the integrity of the new fuselage sturcture with "trash bin landing" No problems with the kevlar honecomb boom but fin got little hurt. Now almost finished the repaires, though.

Finally had a chance to weigh my completed Aspire (carbon center w/ disser tips).

Here's how it weighed out:

Fuse: 677 grams

Stabs: 63 grams

Center Panel: 730 grams

Left Tip: 291 grams

Right Tip: 293 grams

Joiners: 45 grams

Total: 2099 grams or 74.04 ounces all up.
