My first EDF Mig15 Look alike

Just want to share my first EDF.

CDROM Motor:
19.5mm dia. x 5mm thick
10 Pole, 9 teeth
did not record the windings

Fan: GWS 55

ESC: Phoenix 25
Receiver: AR6100E
Servos: BA3.4 elevator, ??? Airleron
Battery: Rhino 3s 1350

Fuselage: FFF,
Wings: Hot Wire cut Pink Foam,
Tail: Dolar Store foam

Wing span: 23"
Fuselage Length: 20" Fuselage only, 24" with tail

Weight: w/o battery: 230 (30g came from paint possible?)
AUW: 356g

Covering: DocuLam
Paint: Acrylic Paint (water thinned Delta Ceramcoat)

She fly very quick (but not fast). I like the sound, almost like a jet zooming by quietly. I don't know the speed. Thru, one gentlemen was flying the HP F16 with 3 cell and my MIG is somewhat the same speed. I need someone to take video for me (I don't have a video cam) before I crash and total this airplane!

So far, it has about 20 flight without me crashing.

And..thanks to adreher for posting the thread on painting with airbrush. This is my first airbursh!

Thanks,

I taped the long edge of the foam to an aluminum tube and use a heat gun to heat the foam closest to the tube, roll the tube forward a little, and apply more heat, and roll..etc until the foam tube is formed.

Thanks Rusty, it is a lot of fun to fly.

If I were to remake this airplane, I would reduce both the width and length of the aileron a bit. Right now, it has too much control and I already reduced the travel both mechanically and electronically. Still a little sensitive on the aileron control.

Nice build. How did you get the tubes to taper at the ends?

Specr,

The back end is easy, just cut straight cutout, 4 places. The nose cut is curved as exaggerated in the illustration. I made 4 cuts for front and back. You can do more cuts then it comes out more round. After I applied the PU glue, I used tape to warp around the tube to bring the pieces together and let it cure. After curing, with gloves, I squeezed the part to make it round and apply heat with heat gun. Let is cool and let go of the part. Finally, I sanded the tube to bring it even closer to round.

Nice. I guess the heat does help to smooth things out. I need to try!

Totalywicked,

I'm in the San Fernando Valley area, Los Angeles. I go to the Apollo field regularly. Still have not got a video. PM me if you have time helping with the video. Thanks in advance.
