Glenn,
Glad to hear you are recovering nicely and back to doing some modeling. I hope your rehab goes smoothly and no hiccups along the way. We take for granted the amount we use our hands and arms until they are immobilized due to an injury. I had some surgery to remove a cyst that was bothering me in the back of my right hand/wrist back in February and I'm still having issues as things didn't heal as they should with some less than normal function from my middle finger not wanting to close the same as the other fingers. It's bothersome, not to mention a bit painful. I digress, sorry. Hope your recovery is complete and you cannot predict that weather with that hand... David |

Thanks David'... Yes, therapy is helping a lot. Fingers are closing at different amounts at the moment and the grip of a 2yr old, but getting there'. G.

Evening all', Figured I'd post on how I'm doing the corrugations on the moving surfaces. First off,... I give the sanded surface's 2 coats of Stits Poly-Tak,.. I'm covering w/ Solartex fabric, then 4-5 coats of nitrate dope. Lighty sanded to remove any un-wanted debris. The corrugations are .060ths L-angle plastic strut material,.. glued down w/ med' Ca. Next I'll spray a light coat of primer to get it all one color. I'll add the rivet details and a panel line or two. Then a shot of primer sealer for the beginnings of the base coat. I'm covering differently than Tom. Tom is using 1/2oz glass and Poly I believe.

Sorry to ask Glann. I bet typing is a total pain. I'm confused about the order of the layers you listed above. Maybe if I ask the question correctly, you won't have to type much...
Is this the order you listed above? 1. 2 coats Stits Poly-tak 2. Solartex covering material 3. 4-5 coats nitrate dope 4. glue on corrugations with med CA 5. primer (type unspecified) 6. rivet and panel line detail 7. light coat of primer sealer And, if you don't mind my asking, what primer products do you prefer to use in steps 5 and 7? Are these rattle can primers? Thank man. You're an awesome builder and I'm trying to learn as much as I can. The other Tom |

The other Tom'.. < #5). Duplicolor Etching primer, great on plastics. #7). Duplicolor primer/sealer gray,... Yes to rattle cans. But overall final paint will be PPG-Products.
Thanks Joe'... the .060ths L-angle is perfect for the corrugations. The full scale ones are 1/4". Time consuming in applying these... Glenn |

DupliColor has an excellent high build primer, which I've been using in conjunction with their primer-sealer. The high build fills low spots and sands easily. I've been using these on the smaller parts, like the elevators and rudder.
For overall priming, I'll be using a PPG lacquer based high build primer. |

Tom and Glenn: when you both get to the painting stage on your models PLEASE offer lots of pics and explanations as to your individual techniques/products used during the different painting stages for us "painting noobs". That would be a huge help to those of us wanting to give painting a go (think Dauntless model...). Thanks!
