42c , wow!
I wont have that kind of problem with heat lol, more likely trouble with cold starts!! Does sound like a heat related problem, so freezer spray and a heat gun or hairdryer might help localise the fault. |

Possibly easy test is to add an external fan to boost air flow. I have seen spec sheets that have derating curves on them. Derating may be required for operation over 90 degF or so. Keep in mind that many of those are meant to operate in parallel. In your case you may just need another in parallel to reduce the load enough for continuous operation. One of the external connections is for 'load share'. You just connect the load share pins from each supply together and they automatically share the load.

I'll try running the single unit at about 50 amps tonight and I'll add a stick my Vornado 660 behind it to help with the air flow. If it fails after that I'll open her up. Either way I'll wire up the second unit. |

Another thing to consider is that if you put 1200W in, you get 1200W out. The AC has to remove that 1200W.
1,000W = 3412 BTU/hr If you are in unconditioned space, it is like a 1200W heater. The power supply losses are only about 10% of the load but whatever the load is will be turned into heat. Hmm with electrolysis Ox and He are generated from water if that is what you are doing. Then the watts into the surrounding area depends on the conversion efficiency. |

It's been a bit cooler lately (23c/73f) and the other night I stuck the Vornado 660 behind it such that the fan would assist the two jet engines inside the unit. I was also drawing only about 40 amps. It still died on me. Not sure what the deal is. As I've got some time today I'll crack her open and hopefully rig up the other PSU. |

archPhoenix,
For electrolysis cleaning, a small 2amp/10amp charger in parallel with a car battery is all you'll need. The 1200W P/S will work, but it will be running at such a low load, you certainly won't have to worry about heating unless you are cleaning a dozen skillets at a time. As feathermerchant warned, electrolysis will also break down water into gaseous H2 and O2. Above 5%, Hydrogen is flammable so don't do this in an enclosed space. Doing a little reading on cast iron skillet electrolysis, this process takes anywhere from a couple of hours to 8-10 hours so the build up of gas in an enclosed space can be significant. Hydrogen will rise and can "pool up" in enclosed spaces so indoors is not a good place to do this unless you can guarantee good air circulation and a complete exchange with outside air. |

Well I read and searched hoping to find how to get this PSU to start up and give me 12v but I can't find any info on the pin layout, I'm hoping someone may have some info on this.

Have anybody done power switch for PS? I'm converting HP DPS-1200FB and was going to connect 1k power up resistor thru small switch. Now when I tested it seems like resistor needs to first be there when you connect power. Any way to control output on/off with low current switch? I prefer making connections to devices without power, and small power switch would be handy.

Try plugging it into a plug strip with a switch.
FWIW I just plug my charger into the power supply then the power supply into the mains. Never been a problem. |
