X250 Do you really need 10 cells for aerobatics

Hi I want to get the X250 and have the stock motor set up except I have a Jet 50 instead of 35. Anyway I also have an 020 direct and geared. As well as the new cobalt Max Products speed 400. All I have are 8 cell zapped 500 AR and 600 AE packs and zapped 1100's and 800's all 8 cells. Will the plane fly on 8 cells and the stock motor or do I need to go with my Brushless motor and direct or geared.
Thanks Joe

It won't fly very well with the stock 7.2V speed 400 and 8 cells. It will fly "ok" on a 6V speed 400 and 8 cells, but the total power available is lower, and the duration will suffer.
It would probably fly quite well with a geared 020, as your efficiency would be higher, meaning more power out for similar power in. I reckon you could exceed the performance of the speed 400 version on 10 cells, with your 020g on 8. Direct drive would probably not be great, as the X250 is not a speed machine, and prefers thrust to pitch speed. Doesn't hurt to try, however, but I doubt it would fly as well as it would geared, for the same power input.

I agree with Andy. I replaced the stock 7.2v with a 6v. It will fly on 8 cells, but it is an effort. 10 cells gives it the extra kick it needs for aerobatics.
