I didn't see the engines you were referring to in Post #1 but if you're looking for COX engines and parts, specifically .049's, you can to www.coxengines.ca

They offer reproductions such as the Babe Bee, The Black Widow, the Golden Bee, the Texaco .049 as well as some specialty and limited edition engines. They also have a great selection of parts as well.

That what I was wondering. For those looking to get started in 1/2A airplanes and look for the sticky, post #1 should have links to places where you can buy engines from. Can the post be updated to reflect those links? The OP appears to be still around on RCG.

Is Cox the only one that makes/sells these small engines? Are they the preferred brand?

Thanks for the engine info, I appreciate it.

Norvel is about the best IMHO. There is a .049, .06, .074, .15, .25 .40 and .40 gasoline version. NV engines is what they are called now. the .074 is a nice strong runner, depending on the plane you have in mind. http://www.nvengines.com/index.php?o...mart&Itemid=65 There is also and AP (ASP) .06 that is still available, mine doesn't work well, but some people have good luck. They also have an .09 and a couple of .15's that are fine, the blue head .15 being the best of the .15 'value' size. http://www.hobbypartz.com/aspengines.html Hobby King carries both Cox and some ASP stuff too. I guess they are a sponsor here. Bernie in BC Canada supplies the Cox NOS stuff if you want to deal directly.

I would also suggest that you visit http://www.exmodelengines.com/ . Matt is located in the US and carries much of the stock that COX International carries. I have dealt with both Matt and Bernie -- both are fine individuals and both offer excellent service.

Awesome! thank you gentlemen! This helps a ton. I have flown gas and nitro, but never an IC this small. Should be a lot of fun.

Thanks again for the help.

You can also get glow engines ranging from 1/2A and up to a 1.80 from Hobby Partz at great prices.
.061 http://www.hobbypartz.com/72p-ap061a.html
.09 http://www.hobbypartz.com/72p-ap09a.html
They also have a .12 and two 15's
.12 http://www.hobbypartz.com/72p-12a.html
.15 http://www.hobbypartz.com/72p-ap15a.html
.15 http://www.hobbypartz.com/72p-s15a.html - I have this one. It's a re-branded Magnum XLS-15. It has a much better price than the Magnum and it performs just as good!

Anyone familiar with a very similar design, that appeared sometime in 66-67 timeframe? I built something for single channel, with an identical wing (two sheets of 1/16 x 6, flat bottomed airfoil) and similar box fuse, I think from plans in RCM. I used a Cox .049, altho I don't remember what was called for.

Perchance somebody has the plan/article from RCM for the 1/2A Hornet using a TD 049, mine met its demise pulling out from a tophat manoeuvre and an electric version may be more suitable these days. I was using a Logictrol 2 channel brick Rx & servos in mine
Thanks

Alex
