What a gift - 59 degrees at the end of November at the City View site,a week and a half ago we were out in 20 degre weather with a 20 mph wind

Great flying, Great fellowship !

Well I am not sure where 2016 went but,
I am 4 months into 2017 still getting birds ready for the North Coast Glider Games next month.
Any way I made a new friend on the west coast after offering to help him clean up his shed..... {and fill mine }
I have wanted for some time to get into bagging and glass work ,now I have a teacher
I will try to be more active on this blog and posting pictures this year

The long New York winter of 2014/15 has finally broken with our first day of temps above 60degree's since last October.
I Just received a custom aerobat VTPR ship from Justin Gafford aka JGAF
This 2 meter swept wing Ultrabatics ship is the cutting edge of the type at this time.
weighing in at 11.2 ounces with a 2 piece wing minus gear.
All I can say is Wow
am starting to install gear ,hope to maiden it by this next week end.

2014 is starting very cold here in upstate NY with temps around the near 0.
Perfect weather to stay inside and build some sloper's later this year.
I have a Zulu from zupair on the build table and a couple of Kayto Lites headed my way from California.

Am trying a couple of diferent methods of finishing EPP- spackle/strapping tape covered with NS trim with monokote, packing tape or both
Am also finishing one using solartex over the strapping tape covered with NS.
I have been working on getting a better finish results with the EPP,I prefer Monokote on my balsa builds as I am able to produce long lasting results with it.
I tend to learn best by doing so more builds ahead to move up the learning curve

Well once again I come to the end of the year and wonder "Where did all the time go? "
Any way I did not get much flying in but did get a couple of builds complete.
I built a pair of Bug's -1 Vtail and 1 Xtail
It was a lot of fun to do and a challenge with the balsa light parts.

I also completed a 2 meter WindRider Swift .

I finaly got my Speedo out for its maiden flight today 11/10/11.
The wind was started weak probably under 8mph under cloudy skys with no thermal. She launched easily and needed no trim, not much lift but felt very comfortable during the short flights I started with.
I put the Speedo away and flew my old GL for a hour or so in the marginal conditions, slinking back and forth on my small hill scratching for lift.
Finally late in the afternoon the wind began to build a bit to a gusty 12 to 15mph so I landed the GL and put the Speedo back up...

Much better, I removed a 1/4 oz of lead from the nose-better yet .
The conditions were fairly rough and she was tossed around but it was a lot of fun,its pretty nimble.

I will check my final cg and add diff. to the ailerons,I also want to add a rudder.

Wow -where did the summer go !
I have not been able to get out sloping when there was wind since june
It is now the middle of september and the forcast for the next week is still dead air.
I am hoping that october will go out with Big wind so I can maiden my JW-60,LIMIT EX and Speedo.
I just ordered a AXIS 60 fron FSD and if the rain keeps on comming I might get a chance a flying that before winter.

Wow :it has been a while since I have updated this so a bit of catching up is needed.
At the end of 2009 a freind brought me out to a small local hill for some slope flying... I am hooked !

While I enjoy the thermal flying,2010 found me on "The Hill" when ever conditions allowed.
I started flying a GL and other 2m sailplanes in light air Slermaling, but as the year went on the conditions produced higher winds
At the end of the year i was ballasting my GL up to 10oz to fly it in the 20 to 30mph fall winds we were getting, what a rush !
I finished the flying year in october maidening a freind's Weasle in over 30mph
winds...I need some new ships !

I spent the winter rebuilding the thermal fleet and have been working on some new Slope planes to take advantage of the more radical days ahead.
I have built a Limit Ex,a couple of my own design planks and hope to finish up a JW-60 in the next week or so.

Here is a shot of my 99inch with the rudder counter balance removed and additional rudder area added.
I also modified the original airfoil by adding some "phillips entry" made a noticeable positive difference to the up wind performance and airspeed.
Not anything too pretty to look at but has been a blast to fly and learn and experiment about sailplane design.
I think that my next change will be to add a center section to incoroprate a much needed spoiller and also increase the dihedral.
A friend gave me a Gentle lady that needed a little TLC,and I noticed that it centered and circled in lift much nicer that my tlar.

I also would like to build a new fuse for the GL with a boom and x or v tail.

Hi to all ! 2009 has been a year to go in a different direction in R/C.
Early this spring a friend took me out to try soaring off a small hill near us.
It is Very different than powered flight and I have been really enjoying it !
I will post some photo's but I have been a flying thermal duration bird with a 99in wing span that I built using the wing and tail from a dynaflight butterfly with a pod and boom of my own design, auw 37oz including a 1000ma 3s pak powering a small 1750zv outrunner driving a 8x4 folding prop -I currenty do not have access to a winch or high start.

I have not set up this feature untill now because I am very slow on the key board and my dial up connection is not very fast, but I am so impressed of how helpfull and informative these blogs are I want to give it a try myself.
I hope this winds up where it is supposed to go. Mike
