🏟️ 'Graffiti Bando' Raw FPV Footage 🎥 New Day – New Graffiti – More Tilt! (4 min 30 sec)

I managed to get back to the Bando for a short practice run a week after my first ever sessions. Another day, another set of Graffiti (on the big wall to the left) and some real fun. What tilt do you have for flying in a confined space and do you have any tips?

It is my first post of fpv footage for a while and it is pretty good for a 700 VTL CMOS camera. The last part of the flight is with the Quelima SQ12 camera which doesn't look as impressive as in fulll sunlight. The Quilema SQ12 camera was amazing in the bando handling the light indoors and outdoors. The Graffiti looks so nice and colourful. The ViFly R130 is a tough beast and has survived all the crashes with the help from some black tape.

Record of 'Graffiti Grange' Bando Session Highlights, 2nd/3rd Session Full Runs, Crashes and Tree Recovery Compilation I had so much fun learning to fly in a 'Bando' with help from 'The School of Hard Knocks' 🤓🍒🤓.

🍒 Cherry Popping in a Bando 🤯🍒🤯 Quilema SQ12 drone HD freestyle fpv footage (Vifly) (9 min 57 sec)

Having only one quad I was trying to be careful it's easy to get carried away and here are my first 3 sessions. It definitely takes time to get used to a lower camera tilt before settling on about 15 degrees but it was essential at first otherwise my Vifly R130 would be in pieces in such a confined space. I wasn't the first to fly this place as I found some broken props, fpvherts 'tags', and even a Rotor Riot gimbal guard.

Got in a last minute fun fly whilst getting used to my new rates. I had to slow down to check out the rainbow halfway through! Also got a good test in the shadows and dying light with the Quelima SQ12 camera at sunset and it didn't fair too badly (a bit blurry) but not as good as in full sunlight.

Do I like the new flow?
I stumbled upon a great new spot by Wembley Stadium which I used to test new smoother Betaflight rates 🤔🤔
It proved to be a great new flying location for me and a level-up. I love the new rates and am very pleased the super cheap Quelima SQ12 camera which worked so well in the dappled sunlight between hail and rain showers 😎

Lost FPV signal over a pond with no way to switch to Angle Mode but manged to just about hold my nerve 😅. Well worth it as got some great footage despite cleaning a muddy esc board in the field to fix a twitchy motor 😫 After 3 months of flying acro it's time to start learning how to tune PIDs - fairly happy with my first attempt!

Aside from the dodgy fpv and flying blind a fair bit of cruising, loops, rolls were executed. It all finished with a crash but the PID tuning and testing is underway🤓 Hoping to tune the quad to be smooth but aggressive enough for freestyle fpv.

What do you do when it's raining all week and you can't fly?

a) Flight simulator
b) Look back over previous flight
c) Edit flight footage
d) Write a poem
d) All of the above

A test edit of a short flight filmed in the winter on an overcast day and edited with Adobe Premier Pro. As you can see it was shot in a lovely fallow field at the back of Belmont’s Children’s Farm in Barnet near London. It was a nice find and luckily The Waffle Café located is nearby and beside the Farm Shop where one can warm frozen fingers on a winter’s day. 👍🏽 👍🏽
Definitely worth checking out and remember that although the land is fallow try to fly from beside the pathway and only collect your drone if it crashes into a field 😎

How do you create that 'Cinema Feel' with a cheap HD Camera on a lightweight racing drone?

What a result in the winter sun at a new spot near Wembley Stadium with a $10 HD SQ12 Quelima Camera on a sub 250g ViFly R130 FPV freestyle drone!

Remove duplicate frames and then blend with the only colour change to select CineLook in Adobe. That works nicely on a bright day with no need to change the tints or highlights so a 10 minute job after the editing of raw footage is complete.

I'm still liking the Quelima SQ12 until something better is released in the same price range. Unfortunately, the Mobius Mini is too heavy so next maybe the Runcam Micro Swift or perhaps the Runcam Nano (5g)? It would be great to have a cheap camera that has a sensor that doesn't produce a black sun 😎

A winter visit in January to the National Trust Snowshill Manor and Garden in the Cotswolds near Chipping Campden with the ViFly R130 with Quelima SQ12 HD camera.

A nice short video test of the SQ12 versus the stock Vifly 700TVL CMOS camera taken in windy conditions. The results from each camera produce a very different feeling but neither are as satisfactory as a Mobius Mini, Runcam or GoPro. However, for £10 it seems like a cheap solution for a mini quad.

So, is it worth buying the Quelima SQ12?
Only if you have a video editor as the raw footage suffers from frame lag and a lack of colour!

Question: Who would purchase the Quelima SQ12 for a sub 250g drone?

Well it weighs 16 grams with sq11 mount if you take the camera out of the box! That is a good reason if you have a small quad.

If you have the time to use a video editor the original SQ12 footage can be greatly improved from the original output. Once the CMOS camera output is edited there is less of a difference in the feel of the 2 videos but the colours are more defined and vibrant on the lightweight SQ12 with a larger FOV. However, with the extra weight will your flight be less enjoyable?

Conclusion: As the cheapest HD camera on the market it is worth buying the SQ12 especially as it sharper and has a larger field of view but it is better if you have a video editor to improve the stock image. With the FPV cameras improving all the time it will not be long before the SQ12 will be obsolete but in the meantime it is a cheaper and lighter solution than the Mobius Mini.

Is it worth buying the lightweight Quelima SQ12 for a sub 250g quad?

Verdict:
The raw video output of the Vifly CMOS 700LVT camera is far more impressive than the SQ12 standard video. The only improvement without editing the footage is a wider field of view.

I found a new spot near Wembley Stadium. Unfortunately, it was too hazy to see the arch in the sunlight.

Best result yet from a cheap 720p camera flown in hazy sunlight. Really sharp and true colours once filtered through Adobe Premier Pro. Shame about the flying but the trim button was hit by accident on the Jumper T8SG so the silly little quad wanted to drift to the right.

The ribbon on the SQ12 lens managed to tear when attempting a lens mod on a spare SQ12! Will have to try again more carefully when a replacement is sent as this may help soften the image. However, initial results are impressive and my best yet although not quite up to a Go Pro. Any feedback on the video footage would be much appreciated 😎

I am finding that the Quelima SQ12 HD is the lightest and cheapest 720p camera available if you spend a little time adjusting the colour saturation and removing duplicate frames. I am still experimenting with tuning my ViFly drone to carry the extra weight and I am also waiting for delivery of a SQ11 camera mount from China. Once I have that I can hopefully bring the weight of the camera down to around 15 grams. Here is of the improved video footage with the 'upgraded' Quelima SQ12:

Does anyone have experience with camera-ball shoots, 3D camera shots or just trippy video creation?
I am starting to experiment by mishap as you can see from the video below.

I found a new spot this week and was looking forward to looking at my HD footage at home only to discover that my flights started off fine and then looked strange. The camera mount is on an adjustable swivel that rotates 360 degrees and also tilts up to an angle of 45 degrees. The screw holding the swivel had come loose and the play in the camera angle made some of the footage look unreal as the world bent around the drone and familiar flying angles were replaced with impossible but smooth curves.

It’s funny how initial disappointment can lead to new discoveries. I think I may play some more with the swivel head when I have time and maybe put another facing backwards or perhaps 2 facing sideways. Perhaps I could add a small gyroscope! Let me know what you think?

ViFly Drone 4S 850mah Raw Footage - Power and Range (4 min 55 sec)

1: Jumping head-first into the world of FPV

As a ‘drone newbie’ I thought that I would share my experience of fvp freestyle for those that may be interested. In October 2017 I decided to purchase a racing drone and did not want to build one nor have to do anything too technical. However, within a couple of months I was taking apart, soldering and generally tinkering with my drone while looking to make improvements.

I got a lot of helpful information from my cousin who had already managed to rewire his brain for first person viewing. He had also built several drones so he got me up to speed with the basics very quickly. Prior to deciding to ‘go acro’, I owned a Hubsan X4 H107C and I tried also out the Bugs 3 and Bugs 6 drones which gave me some experience of the increased power and 'stabilised' mode.

2: Purchasing My First Acro Drone

I purchased the ViFly R130 v1 BNF, Jumper T8GS controller and VRD2 Pro Goggles from unmannedtech.co.uk. A close competitor to the ViFly R130 at the time was the Rodeo 110 but I fancied the 4S capability of the ViFy.
