My latest build is just about finished, all I need to add is the nano size camera!

Rotor DR1 Movie Trailer (1 min 35 sec)

I was lucky enough to be selected to attend the Los Angeles preview screening of the Rotor DR1 movie hosted at the legendary Culver Studios lot.

The film was produced by Chad Kapper and Tom Nicholson of Stonekap Entertainment and is based on a community collaborated storyline set in a post-apocalyptic world featuring a multirotor aircraft as one of the lead characters.

Originally released as a series of webisodes, editor Christian Serge Nelson was able to trim them down and add a mind thrilling score and soundtrack combination with composer Patrick Casteel to bring the individual episodes together into a complete and solid motion picture that captivated everyone in the audience.

Be sure to watch all the episodes and follow the Rotor DR1 team on Facebook to help contribute to the continuing storylines of the characters.

Thank you Chad, Tom and Christian for being so friendly and welcoming and to everyone that made the event possible!

Build Recap

I received this frame as the grand prize for winning the Aerial GP open-class race with the GoodLuckBuy Hexacopter in my previous blog post. Unfortunately, I don't have many pictures of the build process as I built this late one night (which is why the pictures are kinda dark too).

The camera plate on top was missing when I received it (normally includes one) so I took some scrap kydex and made one to fit perfectly with the mobius camera.

Build Recap

Note: This is a recap of my experience as documented in this thread on FliteTest

When I first started building multi-rotors about a year ago, a guy showed up at the local field flying one of these frames with a pixhawk clone. I had my eyes set on the original Blackout Mini Hex but decided to purchase this frame instead since it was less than half the cost.

Unfortunately, there are some weak points in the design and general overall lower quality versus the 'original' but it is still a cheap alternative. It would serve well as a small aerial filming rig to carry a GoPro but I would not recommend it for any kind of aggressive flying or racing.

The first thing I did was swap out the cheap blue rubber dampeners with some black ones I got from HK.
