Mule Canyon, Calico Mountains, Yermo, CA - DAYA 550 Quadcopter last flight with LRS (3 min 15 sec)

FlyingCinema CineTank MK2. This build took awhile to get this far. I first saw this over 2 years ago and decided on a DAYA 550 instead.
After completing the DAYA I immediately realized the props showing in the camera during almost any elevator
speed. I played with gimbal limits on the DAYA but props will show on this, period.
While happy with how well the DAYA fly's, I leisurely looked for a better craft.
The DAYA 550 frame is still my favorite, but the props before I reach 10 mph are picked up by the camera.
If I stay on the elevator the props remain in camera range. No big deal, for aerial photography, its a big deal.
I noticed two frames that looked good and seemed either may solve my issue.

I thank both you guys for making the custom build part of this hobby tolerable by sharing your knowledge.
You guys ROCK!!

I went with the FlyingCinema CineTank MK 2 L and with it, a slow slide down the rabbit hole of builds.
I almost scrapped this for parts... or thought about placing it in the direct path of the local bus route.
This was the most challenging built so far.
It took 6 months in between jobs to 1. build, 2. test, 3. rebuild... 4. repeat. I'm at 98% completion now;
just some (I hope) fine tuning or different pitch props.

After experiencing (extreme for AP) shaking...Continue Reading

I picked up an Exceed Mad Torque 8 Rock Crawler a few months ago. I dig the idea of an autonomous crawler (I'd viewed a few on YouTube). With a spare APM 2.6 I had laying around this is what I came up with so far. I'm already looking at other boards though (Raspberry Pi, Arduino, Pixhawk, etc.)

I did some foot work for the first time on this one. I'm going to continue/experiment with stills for a while. I hope you enjoy.

I tried T-Motors this time and am very impressed!
This build has less than 1 hour in the air, which I plan to change real soon

I'm only flying with the Spektrum DX9 and DLA for all multirotors now...
This is an incredibly smooth and stable flyer.
Thanx for stopping...Continue Reading

The Learning LADDER
After finishing up the Tarot 650 and learning what I wanted and didnít want.
I got the Tarot 650 Sport completed. A few weeks ago it had a major set back.
After upgrading my DL RX v2 to v3 for the DLA TX the quad would not pass the range test.
I could not walk more than 1 meter before it would go into failsafe.

This build has maybe two hours total flight time with a minimum of 8 minutes per flight.
Not clearly understanding what I was experiencing, I took it out back for a test.
Not realizing I shouldnít have tried to take it up for a low test flight
(something Mike of DragonLink strongly recommended NOT TO DO)
I discovered my fight times were now dropping, but the ESCís and motors ran cool???

I took the new DL RX and swapped it on two other multirotors. It passed the range test.
I put my other DL RXís on the 650 Sport, they all...Continue Reading

Tarot Ironman 650 Quadcopter
Build Specs:

Tarot Ironman 650 Carbon Fiber Quad Frame TL65B02
DJI Naza-M v2 w/Mini iOSD Flight Controller
Castle Creations 35A Quad Pack ESCís
SunnySky X3508S-20 KV: 580

Helipal Extended Camera Positioning Kit (660mm)
GoPro Hero3+ Black
IBCrazy 5.8GHz BlueBeam Ultra Mad Mushroom Antenna
Spektrum DX9 w/DragonLink MicroRX v2

This build is a smooth (on a cloud like) flyer, stable and quiet.
Turns out the canopy for the Bumblebee 550-S is a perfect fit.
Itís controlled by the Walkera *Devo 10 TX/RX1002 radio system.
I average 14 to 16 minutes running a Multistar 4S 10.0 Lipo.
I'm anticipating taking this out and up!!

The story:
I decided to make and share an online listing of my builds during my grounded period,
which may be approaching 2 months... update 5 months now

Originally built with a spare Naza-M Lite. The build flew so well,
I soon wanted/needed telemetry.
I began looking closer at the Tarot ZYX-M FC with Telemetry and POI.
Once installed I ran into multiple issues;
My ESC's and motors began over heating
There was also a problem with GPS hold, it didn't retain its height.
IOC/POI I may never know if this works as once activated, I no longer had full(basic) control A,E,T,R.
To prevent damaging a well flying quad, I put a Naza-M V2 onboard and all is well, again.

Very curious now, I put the

DAYA 550 Quadcopter
Build Specs:

Daya 550 Carbon-Fiber Quadcopter Frame
Naza-M v2 Flight Controller w/iOSD
Castle Creations 25A Quad Pack ESCís
T-Motor MT2216-12 KV800 II Motors
Graupner E-PROP 10.5Ē Blades
Dragon Link Micro UHF Receiver - Next Gen
1.2-1.3GHz LawMate Plus Dual Power 500/1000mW Transmitter V2
IBCrazy 1.3GHz BlueBeam Ultra Mad Mushroom Antenna
FeiYu-Tech FeiYu FY-G3 2-Axis Brushless Gimbal
Lumenier UBEC High Voltage - Adjustable 6V, 9V, 12V at 5A (14-40V Input)
Turnigy 4S 14.8 V 7200mAh 40C Lipo Power System
Aver, flight time 18 min.

I originally looked at the CineTank MK2 frame, pretty nice.
The price and limitations regarding add-ons made me continue looking for a low profile fun flyer.
Then I came across the DAYA 550. This has had a few upgrades from the original build.
The items listed below are the parts that were replaced:

Naza-M Lite, Graupner E-PROP 11.5Ē Blades, Tarot OSD , ImmersionRC 600mw 5.8 VTX,
FeiYu-Tech FY Mini 2D(failed horribly), FeiYu Tech G3 Ultra 3D Brushless Gimbal.

At 8 flights with the original equipment and 10 now on the completed system I think itís done.
The only change on this would be to try T-Motor 2216's if/when the SunnySky's fail.
This turned out to be my favorite.

Thanx for...Continue Reading

Sharing a few images of my Walkera QR X350 Pro 'Fly it like its Stolen" images.
No Gimbal or camera onboard.
I've been through a lot with this one...
I bet every X350 Pro owner will probably agree!

Devo-M flight controller loaded with version v1.5 FW. Walkera Scout X4 external GPS mount and battery compartment door lock mod. The GPS is the original X350 Pro GPS module with just enough cable to reach the extended location for a the top mount.

I've moved on to larger custom builds and rarely fly this, but wanted to share this blast from the past. Blast from the past because when I do fly it. I really fly it like it's stolen... it is a fun bird. I learned a lot starting out with this quad.

Hey everyone! I'm new to this blog and new to RC Quads.

Iím wondering if any of you guys have experienced and resolved this issue I am having.

I have the Walkera QR X350 Pro, G-2D Gimbal, iLook HD 720p camera and the Devo F7 transmitter. I only have 3 flights on the X350 and am happy to read and learn instead of flying and crashing which Iím gonna do anyway but a little less by reading.
Iím hoping one of you guys have experienced and resolved this issue I am having. Iíve read that using the Devo F7, G-2D gimbal and the iLook that the F7 will tilt the gimbal andÖ trigger the start/stop record on the iLook. I have disassembled the X350 and gone through the cable ports on the RX703A or what I think is every combination as well as the settings in the F7 radio. What I get is either one or the other. I can tilt the camera with either the gear sw or aux2 knob or trigger record with either the gear sw or aux2 knob, never, ever both. I did figure out how to tilt the camera up by turning the aux2 knob clockwise (all the videos I've seen shows an upward tilt by turning the aux2 knob counter clockwise). Oh, I also have the latest firmware updates on both the X350 Pro and the Devo F7.

If youíve run into this and are willing to share it, I would be super appreciative! Thanx Big Time!
