The Red Baron R/C Modelers February Club Night was held at Aeromark, on Tuesday, February 1st, 2018, with 8 members in attendance.

President David Barker presided over the meeting and gave a Treasurer's update.
There has been little financial activity since the Christmas party; however, 2018 membership dues are now due for all members, and are due by March 31st.

Several members paid their dues at the meeting, and there was a brief discussion on the preferred method of payment (electronic, mail, or in person at the meeting). Anyone wishing to pay their membership ($50/year) by mail, can do so by sending to either...

c/o David Barker, 1053 East 900 North, Shelley, ID 83274.

An instruction sheet for making payment electronically , through PayPal, is also attached to this email.

Payments can also be made in person at the March Club Night meeting.

David later clarified that the Club does not have a preferred method of payment; but while the electronic (PayPal) method may result in a small transaction fee (depending on how the funds are sent by the members) this saves the members from buying checks, envelopes and stamps, and is the most convenient to transfer the funds into the Club's checking account.

The Sunday afternoon, indoor flying sessions at Skyline High School were discussed, along with the future events, and an updated calendar of events is attached to this email.

David Barker discussed...Continue Reading

With the nearby wild/range fires, we've had the opportunity to see some pretty cool fire fighters coming in and out of the Idaho Falls Regional Airport (IDA).

The crew of the Sky Crane said it carries a 2500 gallon water tank, and consumes @500 gallons of fuel per hour of operation, and can lift/carry around 28,000 pounds.

The C61 crew said their two engines together put out about the same power as one of the Sky Crane engines. It carries a 1,000 gallon water tank.

Both these, and some others that are using a remote helicopter base, have been sucking water out of Ririe Reservoir and making multiple water drops on the fires east of Idaho Falls.

They go out for 2-3 hours then come back for a rest and fuel.

They are MUCH bigger on the ground than they appear in the air, and we're very grateful for their service ....Continue Reading

Pictures from our 30th Annual Fun-Fly, held July 8th, 9th & 10th.

While the wind worked to keep everything and everyone from over-heating, it also stifled flying activities a bit, but since it’s common for us to sit around and talk about airplanes as much (more?) than we actually fly, it still made for a great weekend.

Despite the fact that no fees were charged, attendance by both pilots and spectators was lower than normal, and we’re left wondering if the date change (moved up a week due to a conflict) made it too close to the 4th of July celebrations for some to attend.

We served fewer hamburger at the Saturday night barbecue, but as always, the food was great and it seemed everyone enjoyed a good hour or so of conversation before flight activities resumed. Thanks to those who attended and brought something to share!

Planning for next years’ fun-fly started the next day, so as always, we welcome your comments and suggestions for next year....Continue Reading
