After nearly five years she is finished. Balancing and testing this week and hoping for a maiden after a cold front moves through this weekend. Modified for flaps, retracts, and deleted the gearbox. Still under the recommended 40oz. flying weight. Stay tuned!

This is year five my first build. It's a time thing more than incompetence thing, lol. 46.5" Wingspan, 33.5" fuse length and hopefully a flight weight of less than 40 oz. It will be covered in Monokote Chrome. Mods include E-flite electric retracts and flaps. I am using a Hyperion brushless Zs 3007 outrunner with a 10x6 prop, Hitec HS-65 micro-servers in both metal for aileron and elevator and Karbonite gears for the rudder and flaps, Castle Creations 36 amp ESC, and Spektrum AR7610 receiver. I haven't selected a battery yet and am debating the installation of an Eagle Tree gyro. If anyone would like to evaluate this set-up and configuration I look forward to your comments and suggestions. I'm having a lot of fun and learning a lot. I plan a maiden by the end of June, on a salt flat that will allow for landing in any direction in any wind conditions.

My wife picked up a House of Balsa, Ziroli P-51 kit for me at a local RC store. The only laser cut kit in the store. It had been there for so long they gave it to her for $50. Between work and school, I have been working on it for nearly four years. This is my first kit build and first experience in modifying a kit as well. When complete, I will not use the canned motor or gearbox as is original to this plane. I will also be adding flaps and retracts. I'm hoping with the weight I'm saving on the motor that the additional mods will still keep it below the recommended 40 oz. weight. If not, then the flaps will certainly be useful. My workspace? A retired junior high teachers desk. I have three of them that I can put together in the event I ever get to build a 1/18 scale C-130. My other goal, a Don Smith B-17. I love the warbirds.
