For what it's worth, I thought I would chronicle and share my build of the new FMS P-51 Version 7 Big Beautiful Doll.

I first learned that this model was coming out from Banana Hobby on one of their preview videos, that and searching on here for more information. Having recently purchased and built the FMS 1400 Corsair, I was already impressed with the finish, detail and quality overall.

Keep in mind I am re-entering this hobby after a long hiatus. When I started, kits were the only option, and than came the early ARF's. Basically these were kit's prebuilt and monokoted with very few if any details present. Usually details came in the form of decals.

That said, ordering the P51 became and obsession. When new products are introduced and incoming stateside from China, delivery to the vendor can take as long as two months, with customs being the largest wildcard in the delivery chain. As soon as I found out PW-RC.com and RC-Castle.com had them instock, I pondered the higher shipping, but after hearing almost fanatical reviews of the vendors, I decided to give PW-RC.com a shot. I was more than pleased. It took 6 days to get to me!!!

I never did take un-boxing pictures as I received it early on a Saturday morning, and my kids and I jumped into the box to see what goodies it contained. As stated, FMS is running a promotion right now for about 70% of the kits distributed, and I was the lucky recipient of a set of props as my "Freebie". Talk...Continue Reading

Hello y'all,

I started in the this hobby over 20 years ago and I was 17 when I flew my first 40 sized balsa trainer...It crashed on it's maiden flight...and I have been hooked ever since. Shortly after my first foray, I joined a club (Valley Flyers in San Fernando Valley, California) and met up with a couple of gentlemen that were providing no cost flight training. My first and only instructor, Ralph Rosen, became a life long friend and we had spent many fridays, flying until the sun went down, and than I would watch them strap cylume sticks onto their planes and take them in in pitch dark...a few years later, they introduced me to float flying....

I have enjoyed many planes over the years, and for the last 10 plus years I have been inactive, however I would go thru spurts of trying to get back in....I have always had a dedicated RC workshop, yet I have never managed to get any of the kit's or ARF's (not like today's arf's mind you) fully assembled and flyable.

After moving from Southern California to Austin Texas, I had all but given up on the hobby. New life, new State, restart my business, Daddy duties, subsequent divorce, More Daddy and now Mommy duties, and so it goes.

About a month ago, my Son's friend came by, as they had previously seen a 100" Hangar 9 Taylor Craft with a Zenoah 26 hanging from the ceiling in the garage, along with my first successful plane, a Carl Goldberg cub outfitted with floats, lights and landing lights, and a 60 size Heli....Continue Reading
