I chose this plane because I calculated it could fit inside a carefully-sized box and still be within normal limits for typical airline checked luggage. Typically, the restriction is length+width+height <158 cm, and the box is just that. All packed, I think it will weigh about 6kg, so no problems there.

I am going to New Zealand in a few days for work, but I booked some time off before coming home so the wife and I can do some sightseeing, and I can do some RC. I'm hoping to so some slope flying, since it's very flat where I live and fly.

I wanted a plane that could break down into a box and be commercial-airline-transportable, be tough enough for guerrilla-RC, and be light enough that I'd still be able to fly it once I got home, back on the flatland.

I always liked the look and philosophy ("80% ARF") of Arthobby planes, so I picked up a Sky-EC last fall and have been tinkering with it ever since. The fuse on the 2m would have been too long to meet the airline limits, so the 1.7 it is.

They suggest the 880-kv ART-1000 for the 1.7m, but I went for the 950-kv ART-1200 for a little extra zing. The prop is the suggested CAM 11x8 folding, which pulls 20A 225W out of a 1000mAh 3s Zippy Flightmax 25C through a Plush 30.

Apart from the motor selection, the rest of the fuse is pretty standard. I...Continue Reading

This is about as far as my career in FPV has come so far. The Tricopter is currently in a box in a state of disrepair. My homemade yaw mechanism, while effective and perfectly slop-free, is very fragile and a voracious consumer of servos. The landing gear is 2mm music wire.

Perhaps this project will be revisited in the future, but for now the FPV gear is migrating to a mini-quad.

I finally learned how to edit videos.

This is my first Dogfighter, which has since been written-off. I lost orientation and smashed it into this big planet that got in the way.

My second one suffered a stall on launch while attempting a different (4-cell) power setup and took some damage, but it's not completely destroyed. No video of that one as yet.
