Started pulling the Tonka body apart today, on this one they had used a solid dome headed bolt type thing that held the black roof on, took ages to get it apart, unlike Coyote which had ali rivets.
Got the floor pan cut out and removed and made the mounts to mount to chassis
Fixed the body to the chassis with original posts with speed clips.
Just waiting on new rims and tires to arrive, will be using the same as Coyote's.
sorted out the action man and passenger ready to start converting them over to take pan/tilt on driver, and waving arm and a waving arm and turning head for passenger.

Grand kids gave the chassis a good work out this morning thrashing it round the back lawn and are looking forward to watching progress on this build..

A little more progress tonight, i threaded in m5 stainless bolts into the black roof pillars for mounting it to the body, this is the same method i used for Coyote. i just have to cut off heads now as i use wing nuts which makes it easy to remove etc

got some more work done on the driver, he now has a waving arm and a pan/tilt set up , i used his neck captivity to mount the pan servo so the camera sits forward allowing a good 180% view all round, hot glue needs to be cleaned up now with a hot knife as you will see, and then he should nearly be done other than finishing his other arm which mounts on steering wheel .

i added a photo of the power plant of the new beast, three fans to keep everything cool , i know it needs a clean, havent had a chance after the grand kids were thrashing it round the back lawn over the weekend.... but wow it can really boogie, i think its going to be a very fast Tonka..

Starting on a new build using the Tonka bronco body but this time on a different chassis, this time will be using a brushless set up with twice the speed, so may require being stiffer in suspension and lower.
Watch this space................

a bit more progress..
Got the antennas all sorted and mounted on the roof, i built two dipole antenna's for my EZUHF rx and brought a 3 lobe BlueBeam Ultra for video tx.

also fitted a little fan to my 1500mw 1.2ghz video tx to help keep things cool whilst sitting or driving slow through wooded areas.

Painted the dash and interior and now on to the fit out.

Well after tinkering with the SC8E chassis and taking it for a spin i have decided to change the chassis over for a E Revo chassis, This is almost identical to the summit chassis just minus the 2 speed trans and locking diff, it also has twin Electric 550 motors.
Thanks to Traxxas pre thought they made a conversion kit for the trans to change it to 2 speed and also made a single plate motor mount to swap out the twin motors to the single 775 motor, which i may add is HUGE .
This is the path im going down now as it will then be a summit chassis and the build can continue.
Mounting the body was easy peassie and already is looking much cleaner and better sitting on the new chassis, still have to fit the 1/8 scale tyres and rims which will happen this week

Couple of pics of progress.....
Even his passenger looks excited bout the new ride.......wheres her hand going......

Ok more progress...

After some careful cutting and restitching the camera is in. and i managed to keep some of his eyes and part of the nose so he still looks like hes got a head,,may have one eye, so to speak but everything else is still intact.

the updated photos show him in the normal driving position, leaned back position and leaning forward position. i will tonight however remove a couple more mils from his torso which will allow him to lean forward slightly more so., everything seems to work well and after a bit more cleaning up and shaving in places, then finish his wig and clothes he will be all done

Mean while............
Meet the cyclop action man!...Continue Reading

Well so far so good,
Have decided on using a Team associated SC8E chassis so will be a little different than a Tonka Summit but in saying that everything has mounted up well.
The SC8E has up graded suspension and steering components and a 3600kv motor, 150amp esc and new Traxxas style rims and Louise mt pioneer tyres.
Starting to look the part!
now its on to the interior and all the electrics etc

Some updated photos

After watching the Tonka summit thread on here over the last year i have decided to bring my FPV flying down to ground level and give this a try, from all the videos ive seen of the tonka blasting around the country side i'm hooked!
As i build this beast i will add to this blog with pictures and info on the build..

Picked up the chassis for the Tonka
Its not a summit chassis but something very similar and will go ahead and set it all up on it,
