I got this at my LHS when I was about 12. It lasted a few years. Lots of tape held it together. I never had a landing that wasn't a major crash. When the firewall/motor mount broke off, it was time to call it quits. I held on to it with the intention of rebuilding it at some point. 15 years later, I'm not so sure about that.

This was back when "bricks" were literally the size of bricks. Those servos are massive.

Do you have 40 old cell phone car chargers in a box somewhere? I know I do. Here's something useful you can do with one.

Ever needed a 12VDC source when you're in your car but don't want to directly hook up to the battery? Cut up your old cell phone charger and make one of these.

(This is when the A-Team theme song starts playing.)

Old charger

There's a bunch of stuff on that board. You will probably want to disable it somehow. Most of them have a fuse that can be un-soldered. It's probably the first thing in the circuit. I had to remove most of the components to make room for my mods...

The spring in the center is +, and the springs on the sides are -. Well, they should be. It's a good idea to check them with a multimeter just in case your car is wired backwards somehow.

How to set up Flaperons on an E-FLite Beast UMX
(or anything with a AR6400LBL) with a DX8

1. Create a new model profile
- select flaperon wing type
- modify existing? Might work...just make sure your servos are all set to Norm, not Rev.
- make sure your aileron and elevator rates are set to 100%
- re-bind plane

2. Check to see if Ch6 is already set as a reversed ch2 in the AR6400LBL
- turn on radio and then RX
- go to the Servos page
- check movement of ailerons
- reverse left aileron servo
- if the left servo reverses then it's already been switched. change it back and set up your flaperons on the Flaps page(step 5).

3. Change the AR6400LBL Ch6 to a reversed Ch2
- turn on the TX
- throttle to full
- hold right stick to down and left(for Mode 2 radios)
- power on rx, wait for 3 blinks
- turn off rx and tx

4. Check that servos are now independent
- now, the left aileron should be on Ch6, which is labeled Left Aileron in a DX8. Otherwise it might be Aux1.
- power everything up and check the aileron movement...they probably move the same way
- if they both move the same way, reverse the left aileron servo on the Servo page

5. Flaperons
- Go to the Flaps page
- set up the % to your liking (-20% and -35% for me)
- TEST it

6. Change your rates back. I already had dual rates set up so it was just a flip of the switch. Reverse servos in the TX as needed.

HZSC - Daybroke (4 min 8 sec)

This will be the last one for a while.

I broke down and bought one. For $430, you get an AR8000 with a satellite RX and the TM**** telemetry box. Mine came with a second AR8000 (w/ sat. RX) which offset the extra cost of the DX8 over the DX7S. Sweet!

Since I haven't held a DX7S in my hands I don't know what actually makes them different. The DX8 appears to have an extra switch or 2 and a backlit screen, which is a huge plus IMO.

Setting up the radio was a breeze. I think that says something, considering this is my first "good" radio.

I plan to maiden the Beast tomorrow if the wind calms down.
