This will be a summarised build blog of Frank Knapps Liíl cub. Peter Miller had posted a prototype build of the model on modelflying.co.uk forum as a precursor to appearing as a free plan and article in a future edition of RCM&E magazine. Peter had kindly sent me a copy of his original hand drawings, sketches and some build notes, and will be using those as a basis for the No 2 protoytype build.

The plan is for an electric powered 55in span model around 1:6.5 scale and 3 Lbs AUW. Itís and all wood build.

The Knapp original is a heavily modded Cub J3, stripped to bare essentials, lots of carbon fibre , new STOL wing with flaps and leading edge slats. In 2017 the aircraft set a new STOL world record at Valdez, with a take off in 13 feet 8 inches, and a landing in 10 feet 5 inches. A reputed top speed of 62mph with its large low pitch prop to maximise take off thrust.

Note added 2019.

With much regret I decided in Oct 2018 to formally wind up Model Markings, this is for personal reasons. I will still be making markings, as I enjoy the design and production processes, but the business and website will cease. Thanks to all my customers (in over 20 countries worldwide.

Regards Tim

Complete the illusion with Modelmarkings.com, launched in January 2012, a custom markings service to the scale and sport scale RC modeller, anything from 1/24 to 1/3 scale. Markings are produced as CAD cut vinyl, fuel proof and easy to use and apply, supplemented with printed vinyl and the more traditional waterslides for manufacturer logos and insignia not suited to cut vinyl.

For the scale modeller seeking the traditional painted finish, cut vinyl paint masks are produced in a ready to use low tack masking material, complex multi colour markings can be produced, with overlays, complete with accurate registration marks to aid positioning.

Prices from £2.99 for a basic set of Registration lettering, a basic 1/8 scale Warbird set for a WW11 fighter comprising Fuselage Roundals, Wing Roundels, Squadron Lettering and identification lettering from £12.50. Custom markings can be produced from customers own artwork, photographs or from my own vast library of markings data, prices on application

As a keen modeller I have always enjoyed producing scale markings, have built a large library of markings data and templates, enabling thes to be produced accurately and quickly, and with increasing demand from fellow club members and modellers world wide, the next logical step was to launch the website offering the service.

For the future, on the site www.modelmarkings.com , sets of markings for specific planes and to support magazine free plans, and also I intend act as a useful portal to provide useful data and technical information on markings, details on military insignia, to how to guides and case study examples.
