After coping the ends of the doweling on the fuselage so far, a hole has appeared on the end of my left thumb. While that is healing a weight check of the fuselage put it just over a pound. Was hoping for less, but there is no place where it can be lightened.
Worked a little on the seat back also. Plenty of building yet to do.

After spending a bit more time in the shop over the past few days the Ka-3 airframe is more or less starting to take final shape. That is of course not counting what's yet to do under the lower longerons.

The scenery around Concrete WA looks fantastic from the camera position on the 1/3 scale Grunau Baby IIb wing mount.

Started work on some of the functional scale features for a new sailplane project to be finished before the aerotow season opens next year in the Pacific North West. As you can see from the photo, it is a functional 1/3 scale tow release that just happens to fit in the palm of my hand for size comparison.

Recorded video from my Ka-8b this weekend at the Yakima Aerotow event. The temp was hot the thermals big and plentiful.

Last weekend we attended the first aerotow event at Morrison Field located just North of Logan Lake B.C. The weather was not very welcoming but the scenery and hospitality was outstanding.

Captured this video frame from the Flight of the Moswey 4 taken at Tug Fest this year. The Moswey 4 was circling in one of the house thermals just West of the field.

Had the opportunity this last weekend to try out a new wing camera mount using my modified World Models Hall Cherokee II. The camera and mount weigh in at 3oz. A counter weight is secured to the bottom of the opposite wing with tape to keep it all in balance.

Attended the Weaver Field annual breakfast in Othelo WA. on the 19th of March. The grass was a bit high to ROG the Arcus M but a hand lunch put it in the air.

The ST Models Arcus M arrived the other day. Now fitted out with a 7 ch Jeti receiver and 1300mAh 3s battery with an all up weight of 2 lb.
Really looking forward to flying it when the snow finally clears in about March.

I have compiled three aerotows of the same sailplane to show how different tows can be from the hypothetically perfect tow. I will admit that over the past 14 years of being a tug pilot that I also have made good, bad and really ugly tows.

Attended the Last Chance Aerotow held just outside Wenatchee, WA this last weekend. Had the opportunity to fly the Flair Ka-8b and the Moswey 4 several times. The weather held off until early afternoon when the wind picked up and a few sprinkles came along but cleared later in the afternoon.

The Flair Ka-8b just seemed a little bare without some lettering. For grins I decided on Austria for the home markings. A good friend cut the lettering for me from black vinyl. The application was straight forward after attention to setting up the lettering on the Ka-8b whitch included several measuring steps for each.

I was cleaning out an old laptop computer to be recycled and found this Key Bob video of the demise of my Flair Ka-8b back in 2010. The dark screen section was edited back about 20 min. it took us to find it off field due to the tall grass at Monroe that year.

At the Mission Aerotow this year not all the video flights went off as planned. On this flight the tow did not get off or was as smooth as hoped. One of the local field inhabitants decided to take a sailplane flight but meet with an abrupt landing that snapped the camera mount. On opening the canopy to turn off the camera the little guy took leave of the sailplane. On viewing the video my flying was not as smooth as I had hoped but I'm improving. The camera mount is now repaired and ready for action when the opportunity arises.

Saturday morning started bright and sunny with only a dark horizon to the North. By 9:00am the dark band moved down just to the west of the field dispersing a gray haze over head. This held the thermals at bay but provided very good visibility of the sailplane at around 1400ft agl. A fire north of the area provided the smoky overcast.

Flew the Moswey 4 and Hall Cherokee at the Columbia Aerotow this last weekend. The temp was hot at 105F on Friday with clear skies but not quite as hot Saturday due to a smokey overcast that came in around 9:00am due to a fire up north. This keep the flying height to around 1400ft.
