I liked the look of my BVM Maverick but it needed something. So I came up with a few ideas, sent my request to Callie Graphics and presto, Maverick is now properly dressed

I finally did the maiden flight on my YA F/A-18C.

Used the Extreme Dynamax fan unit on 12S XPS 30C cells. I have to download the data to see how many amps and watts I was using.

Flight went ok, takeoff was a bit long, I had takeoff flaps set. A bit bumpy on the grass. Slight wind down the runway and the grass was just cut, so I am a bit concerned about the takeoff run being so long.

Gear stuck down, looks like an air line came loose I was not able to pull the gear up. The gear problem kinda started getting me worried , you know the first flight jitters, so I decided to land it early. Also because I was using more throttle with the gear down and did not want to empty the battery. I did not have to change the trim, but the ailerons were a bit touchy on the recommended settings.

I came in a bit high and fast, I had full landing flaps down but it did not slow down as quickly as I thought it would, so the landing was a bit long. Watching the video I should have gone around, but at the time I thought I had plenty of runway.

The nose gear bent back a bit, but that was the only damage to the plane.

Plane flew ok, kind of a tame flight. It does sound great though.

Heres to better flights next time around

Finished Painting my Yellow Aircraft F/A-18C Hornet. Most of the work is completed. I'll buy the batteries this spring and add the battery tray and do the final CG check. Fan is XPS Extreme Dynamax fan, probably will fly on 11S cells.
Now I have to wait for nice weather

I decided to build another jet since I had all the parts, well pretty much all of them. Mostly an HW-730 fan set up looking for a home.

I have Andy Conway's L-39 for the 90mm Midi fan and it flies great, so why not make a bigger one. I did some quick calculations and the 730 fan fits if I scale the plane by 120 %. So I took Andy's plans over to the local copy place and had them enlage by 120%.

Its an Old school time build, a real build, not an ARF assembly. Not even laser cut parts on this home build. All hand cut balsa and foam.

Break out the scissors and and the spray on glue and off I went. The formers are 2 sheets of 1/16th balsa layered cross grained and glued. It works ok, but I should have used lite ply in some of the spots.

Lots of gluing and cutting balsa.

Sheeted wit 3/32" as that allowed me to sand a bit to get the curves right.

The original 90mm version did not have retracts so some modifcations were made to fit retracts. I used the Tamjet retracts and struts.

Weight is 10 lbs , For Power it has an
