This is the new Dynam Hawker Tempest available at Nitroplanes.com. Here's another great Dynam Warbird! Again, Dynam brings a low priced, quality product to the market that will not disappoint. At a time when the RC market is flooded with P-51s, F4U Corsairs, Spitfires and ME-109s, it's great to see a different warbird at your local RC field.

The maiden was painless! Place a 4S 2200 forward in the battery compartment and the CG is perfect. Like the Dynam AT-6 and Corsair, the slow flight behavior is outstanding and stock power is a perfect match for this airframe. I spent a little time painting the exhaust, spinner, control horns and canopy to help improve and already impressive paint scheme.

IMHO, Dynam is one of the best manufacturers of low priced scale foamy warbirds. Yes, some of us have commented that we would like to see improved LEDs and metal trunions in the retracts but again, remember is is a low cost offering that really holds up well. At a price of $129, you will not be disappointed!

Here's a few photos of the new LX Models YF-23 Black Widow II.

The Northrop YF-23 competed against Lockheed's YF-22 during the Advanced Tactical Fighter Competition in 1990. The YF-22 ultimately won the competition even though the YF-23 was the better aircraft. Remember, back in 1990, Northrop was building B-2 Stealth Bombers and Lockheed had nothing on the assembly line. Needless to say, the YF-23 was a beautiful aircraft. I had the pleasure of seeing both prototype YF-23s stored here at Edwards AFB in 1994 and after being assigned to Edwards in 1997, I'd spend many afternoons walking around PAV-1, the first YF-23 produced of the only two prototypes. Today, Ship 1 is in the National Museum of the United States Air Force and Ship 2 is now at the Western Museum of Flight at Zamperini Airport, Torrance, CA.

Flight Report:
Two successful flights on the YF-23 and one maintenance issue. With the 6s 4000 mah, she was a little nose heavy which I wanted for the maiden. I started with 50% expo in the elevator and 40% in the ailerons just for assurance and 50 degrees of full flap deflection. Since I was using a 7 Ch receiver, I did not connect the brakes. After a long takeoff roll, she broke ground and required four clicks of up trim, ailerons were right on the money. The first flight was conservative...sort of! This is the long awaited Durafly Spitfire Mk. 24 available from Hobby King. This beautiful example of the Mk. 24 was well worth the delay/wait. Immediately after removing the fuselage from the box, I noticed that the rudder foam hinge had been separated from the tail and remounted with plastic hinges. This possibly the reason for the delay along with ensuring the product was available at all Hobby King warehouse locations for world-wide release. Either way, this is a fine model and a great addition to the Durafly warbird series. The standard 35mm motor and 35 amp ESC are included and she flies on an 11.1v 2200mAh battery. I spent a little time painting the exhaust, prop tips, control horns, wheel rims and antenna to improve the already great scale appearance. The maiden was effortless with no surprises. Just point her into the wind, slowly advanced the throttle, counter the prop torque with a little right rudder, tail lifts off and you're airborne. Clean up the gear and off she goes. The speed is just a touch slower than the Duraly P-51 and P-47 and that is possibly due to the drag of the radiators under the wings. I plan to open the exit slots at the rear.

All in all, I'm very happy with the Spit!

Here's another great Durafly 1100mm Warbird available from Hobby King.com. It flies on an 11.1v 2200mAh battery and assembly easily achieved in under an hour. I spent most of my time painting the engine, cowl, prop tips, wheel rims and control horn. The maiden was effortless and a real joy. Like most tail draggers, this P-47 requires a little right rudder as you slowly advance the throttle. Once your airborne and retract the gear, the speed is respectable for the stock 35mm motor and 35amp ESC.

I 'm very pleased with this Thunderbolt and looking forward to more formation flying with other Durafly warbirds.
