WOW........Today I took my SuperStar40 to the field and had 3 or 4 flights then it happened, on my fianal take off at the end of the runway at full speed, when the wheele hub on my landing gear broke...at that point there was no turning back...so I pulled up on the stick and after holding my breath it was up, all over the place, but up...very scarry.. was able to get her straigt and resummed flight. Thought to my self what happened? was it a servo...no...was it a link prob...no the plane seemed to fly just fine, so what was it? well I did a slow flyby and noticed the wheele hanging funny, yep that was it. Great now what do I do...

Well after my flight, it was time to land (GULP) I came up with an Idea... when I came in I used the left side of the gear when I touched down, was a bit crazy but it worked....Took her home in one piece...what a day...

Well ok I started the construction on the boogie board I made a tail frame and Fins. I was able to hindge them with a thick plastic and rivits. I made the motor mount out of lite guage allumium that I bent to size, and then I attched them with bolts. I am ready to install the electronics next, shouldn't be that hard. I will then fire it up and test it. will post again later...

Ok... I found a boogie board and a few parts, I need to plasma cut the chanel I plan to use, and drill a few holes in order to start the frame to the motor...When on the hunt for a boogie board I stoped by the flight field and met a young pilot and his dad. It was a nice day for flying, and I was able to get an idea of how high and far we can fly at that field...as you can see by the photo he did well and had a blast 4 flights and took the plane home in one piece.

Happy New Year.....Ok now that the hollidays are over it is time to get back to it in the shop...It is a bit cold so time is limited, as my darn hands don't work well when they are cold...
My daughters boyfriend and I started talking about RC stuff and with a quick search we found a new project...an RC Boogie Board
Boogie Board Airboat With 31cc Ryobi Weedeater Motor (1 min 41 sec)
so we decided to make one with a extra motor I had laying around. It's a 20cc weed eater engine, the ports are one the back of the motor so I was not going to use it on a plane...Anyways we mounted it and, got it running. WooHoo so now we are on the hunt for a cheep boogie board. I will post updates later here is a pic of the power plant...

Well I was able to get the Big J3 up in the hanger for the Christmass season...as I was worried about the plane getting dammaged from some of my guest, smoking and drinking...and such. they all like to visit in the shop as I don't allow smoking in my house. so I try to keep things picked up in the shop.

So I will say Merry Christmass to all and to all, a good flight...will check in after the season...

Well for what it's worth...I am new to this hobby my wife and I are new "empty nesters" and I feel it is time to start the hobby I have allways wanted to do, with that in mind my first build is the 1/4 J3 cub with a 28 cc weed eater motor I just finished the engin conversion last week and it turned out nice I plan on installing it soon then work on the cowl...the fuse is covered and waiting for the survos and fuel cell to be installed. The wings are almost done but I am waiting on a 2-56 die so I can finish the pushrods and survos I still need to hindge the alerons then cover them. I plan on going with the clipped wing scamatic when I detail it..Cub yellow with black and the traditional z stripe.
I also bought the Hobbico SuperStar 40 as I plan on learning to fly with this trainer will join the AMA soon and am joining a group that flyes out of McMinville this spring is when i will fly... meanwhile I have set up a flight simulator in the shop and was able to load all of my models in it, great way to pratice this winter...
I have a 2meter glider I picked up a a garage sale this summer so I decided to put a nitro 25 in it had to extend the shaft and put a folding prop on it...this should be a fun flight...My wife got me a 1/8 j3 park flyer as a gift a couple of years ago and I only flew it twice. I plan on busting it out as well. I also made a light v tail rubber band powered plane out of scrap wood from the Big J3 build I call it "Scraps" and yes it does...Continue Reading
