Mounting the Dualsky GA6000.9 motor, painting the false radial engine, and mounting the cowl is what's in this next episode of my 92" Black Horse Gilmore ARF from MotionRC. Enjoy!

How to install the motor, cowl, and paint the radial - 92" Black Horse Gilmore Red Lion ARF - Build (10 min 26 sec)

"Pratt & Whitney supplied the powerplants, Wasp Jr. engines with 985 cubic inches of displacement. The factory beefed up and supercharged the engines with high-compression pistons and individual stacks for less back pressure. In 1932, the manufacturer rated them as follows: 525 horsepower at 2,200 revolutions per minute and 550 horsepower at 2,300 RPM when racing." - Wedell-Williams Air Service page 34

"The engine cowl for the Model 44s was a NACA-type provided by Hill Aircraft Streamliners. The full pressure cowl created a venturi effect at the trailing edge for the exhaust to exit the stacks. Turner's cowl tapered slightly more inward at the trailing edge than the other two. " - Wedell-Williams Air Service page 35

Let's attach the rudder and elevator with Robart pin hinges in the same fashion as we did with the ailerons. We'll also install the respective servos and pushrods to connect everything up.

How to attach the Landing Gear of the 2350mm Black Horse Gilmore Red Lion - Wedell-Williams 44 (11 min 40 sec)

I'll show you how to attach the landing gear and tail wheel in this episode. Also, a special bonus, I ordered the extra set of wheel pants from @MotionRC and there was a pleasant surprise of an extra spare piece I was not expecting. Check out the end of the video to see what it was!

About the real NR61Y:
"The gear was attached at the wing root area, projecting outward at an angle of 10 degrees to prevent them from buckling inward. The gear struts were attached to the wheel axle on the inside of the wheel so that the wheels and covering were parallel to the vertical plane or Z-axis. These factors allowed for an enhanced performance in crosswind landings. Goodrich low-pressure tired provided shock absorption." - page 29 - Wedell-Williams Air Service

About NR536V (#92 Miss New Orleans)
No. 92 would also be a Model 44 with outward appearance very similar to NR-278V. However, the landing gear legs extended from the wings in almost a straight line while No. 44 angled out a bit.

Enjoy this relaxing montage of videos and photos of this beautiful Seagull Perestroika. You might think I went a bit overboard...but I had a BLAST creating this mini movie. I hope this conveys how I look at airplanes...and I hope that this shows off the beauty and style of this Reno racer.

Wing Assembly of the 92" Black Horse Gilmore Red Lion ARF - Wedell-Williams Model 44 - Roscoe Turner (19 min 10 sec)

Let's glue the ailerons with pin hinges, install the servo, measure the pushrod, and run the servo extension in this first build episode of the 92" Gilmore from Black Horse Models and Motion RC!

"Don Young stood at one end of the field. Harry Williams and Roscoe Turner positioned themselves at the opposite end, a distance of one mile. Their stopwatches were synchronized to clock Jimmie's speed. Near the completion of his pass, something went terribly wrong. Aileron flutter or buzz apparently progressed to wing flutter. This caused the left wing to collapse when its guy wires snapped under the stress. The individually operated ailerons, designed by Jimmie, helped him keep the ship from rolling too fast about its own axis. This delayed the inevitable tumbling of the plane and allowed him time to unfasten his seat belt and bail out." - page 32 - Wedell-Williams Air Service

Complete Walkthrough of the Hitec HFP-30 Servo Programmer (12 min 51 sec)

In depth explanation of the Hitec HFP-30 servo programmer explained and demonstrated for you.

I explain in detail both the servo testing mode and the servo programming mode of the HFP-30 programmer utilizing a Hitec brushless 9831 and one of the newer D-Series D951TW servos. If you're confused on exactly what the sync port does, I'll explain that as well.

Unboxing of Black Horse Gilmore Red Lion 2350mm (92.5") ARF - Wedell-Williams Model 44 (16 min 30 sec)

Time to unbox the 92" Gilmore Red Lion from Black Horse! (plus a bit of footage of the REAL Wedell-Williams NR61Y which is on display at the Crawford Aviation Museum in Cleveland, Ohio.

NR61Y was born in Patterson, Louisiana in 1932. She was a pretty girl with a sleek, smooth NACA cowl housing her chesty Pratt & Whitney R-985. Roscoe Turner flew her to California for the start of the 1932 Bendix race in an unpainted condition. His mechanic and right hand, Don Young, not only had to build her, but paint her in a dark hangar literally just prior to race time. The colors she wore for that racing season were the most famous of all the Wedell paint schemes—silvery crème with red and black trim—and race #121.

Nicknamed in a burst of creativity as the "Gilmore Red Lion," Turner flew her to third place behind Jim Haizlip in the Wedell-Williams #92 (NR536V) and Jimmy Wedell in #44 (NR278V). Poor Roscoe placed third in the Thompson Trophy, as well, trailing Jimmy Doolittle in the Gee Bee R-1 and Jimmy Wedell in #44.

I'm very excited to share this build series with all of you!
