This might not be appropriate for a blog, but I'll try it anyway because I tend to test things and people to the limit

For the sake of the few who've visited my blog, please be patient with me as I come to grips with this fairly complex website after joining only 3 days ago and creating my first blog ever, even though I've been computing for more than 33 years

High Flight

"Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward Iíve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
of sun-split clouds, ó and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of ó wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hovíring there,
Iíve chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air....

Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
Iíve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace.
Where never lark, or even eagle flew ó
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Ė Put out my hand, and touched the face of God."

John Gillespie Magee Jr.

PS It's gratifying to see that there've been more than 600 visits in only about 3 days. However, it'd be even more gratifying if just someone replied. Anyway, hopefully one of the visitors was Mike Roach because he more or less suggested that I do this as a result of email communication with him. If you aren't familiar with US president Ronald Reagan's speech in 1986 following the NASA space shuttle Challenger disaster, in which he quotes from the first and last lines of this poem to form an abbreviated version, then just check out the Wikipedia article on the poet and view the video of the president.
