Tutorial - Adding Struts to your WLToys F949 Cessna 182 or other Micro Plane

Tutorial - Adding Struts to your WLToys F949 Cessna 182 (38 min 36 sec)

The Main Wing on this plane has way too much flex and should have had Struts out of the box but didn't.
In this Tutorial we're going to remedy that situation by fabricating our own Struts ;-)

To complete this Tutorial you will need the following Tools & Supplies:

Link to Angle Jig Template: http://www.groundcontrolrc.com/ftp/t...182_struts.pdf

- (1) Barbeque Skewer that is 3mm in diameter and approx. 125mm or 5in. long
- (2) Stir Straws that have a 3mm inside diameter and are approx. 150mm or 6in. in length each.
- (1) Packing Tape or similar Tape
- (1) Pencil or something to outline your Angle Jig Template and mark your Barbeque Skewer lengths
- (1) Material for your Angle Jig; Foam Board, Cardboard, etc.
- (1) Scissors to cutout your Angel Jig Template and a Printer of course
- (1) Utility Scissors, Utility Knife, Exacto Knife or something else to cut your lengths of Barbeque Skewer, Stir Straws, & Angel Jig
- (1) Ruler preferably with a Millimeter Scale so no conversions are needed
- (1) Hot Glue Gun or some other Foam Safe Glue

Build, Fly, Crash, Repair, Rinse & Repeat!

Happy Flying!

I acquired 2 DHK cars (Wolf/Ray-r same car) both almost new and RTR for $150. I couldn't pass up the deal. I just got back into RC a few months ago so I am having to learn RC all over again. Any/All advise is appreciated. My question is what will it take to make both cars competitive on the track or are they just backyard track / bashers? What brushless motor/esc can the car handle with the stock gearbox? Any/All advice on upgrades is appreciated. And if the cars aren't "race quality" please let Me know.

Yep Les Amis,

UPDATE 12-31-18. Zeiss Lens cleaner for cleaning the mirrors.

UPDATE 10-12-18
Key feature of these goggles is you can comfortably wear your glasses under them. The mirrors used in this design provide 1.9 magnification.

SZFXT sent me for free a replacement upgrade to a V2 display (FX508) because I was unable to update the firmware in my V1 display. And, I was experiencing signal break up. That is outstanding customer service. 10 minute video clips and adjustable display size is now available to me. Hope they work better receiving the signal. All new Viper goggles are V2

:UPDATE. 10-8-18 regrading firmware upgrade.
The Viper V1 upgrade tool and process is beyond reasonable. The three pins that connect the tool are too small to lock into the corresponding holes on the board. Pressure on them does not lock them onto the board. Anybody else do the upgrade have a similar problem? I spent $20, waited 5 weeks for the connector to arrive from Germany. I take my display apart to find that the connector is not properly sized to the board. You have to hold the three pins in a position that assures no break in continuity while flashing. The fear was moot because the upgrade tool USB driver never installed rendering the tool useless.

Yes, shipped Germany, go figure. I want my money back or a free Version 2 disply that already has the firmware upgraded.

Bought on August 4, 2018 from Amazon.

Needs firmware upgrade to lengthen videos.

Bought tool on August...Continue Reading

I started assembling my Fly Baby today. This is made by Taft Hobby. It was also sold by Hobby King in a blue color scheme. It's a nice looking scale model.

There were a few minor mistakes from the factory. The first one was the hardware. It was supposed to come with several different lengths and sizes of sheet metal screws, but they were all identical. So I drilled and tapped for 3mm screws and used them instead. Another issue was the rudder control horn. It was not glued in properly and came out as soon as it was touched. I re-glued it. And then there is a large plastic piece that supports the landing gear. It also connects the two wing halves. It broke off as soon as I was working around it, again for lack of glue. It had only one little dot of glue for a rather large piece.

Other than those issues the assembly is pretty easy and fast. I still have to string the wire bracing and install my Rx.

It arrived this morning !
Also this morning I went to the park to try some launch settings on the Whipit
Was getting there till the wind came up , oh well ! My back was saying enough anyways and I did have to walk home ..
( Just trying to increase my activity levels - so I am incorporating some whipit )

Back to the Jumper T8SG Lite .........

These are my initial un boxing - Impressions ! I have not done anything but take the T8SG Lite out of the box and move the sticks , flick some switches , open the battery cover .. ok !

Gimbals ------- !
Very toy transmitter like .
The round hole for the sticks means limited movement in the other axis
? For some reason , the right gimbals started off ok and then started to bind ? ( Might be some dirt / grime ? )
Throttle is too lose for me , I like a lot more tension .

Switches ----- !
Both switches are 3 position - Feel nice

Rotary Switches on the side ---- !
Good tension
Easy to get to
I was afraid they might get in the way - but no !

Trim ---- !
They feel really nice and positive

Battery cover --- !
Pull up and then out ..
Yeah , I think it will do the job nicely .

Antenna Stub --- !
Lose - ?? Not that it matters ...

How it feels in the hand --- !
It's a small transmitter for sure , actually smaller than a WL Toys Transmitter . ( If you have one )
Sits in the hands rather nicely , all the switches are easy to get to and actually feels good in...Continue Reading

Glue & Fly Series - F-22 Mini V2 Acro Practice? Session 22 Flight 6

Glue & Fly Series - F-22 Mini V2 Acro Practice? Session 22 Flight 6 (5 min 38 sec)

Until this year I flew mostly FPV.
I have decided I need to get my LOS (Line-Of-Sight) skills on par with my FPV skills.
I would say that my FPV skills are High-Level Intermediate while my LOS skills are as Beginner as you can get ;-(
I have practiced my LOS flying to this point flying circuit after circuit and figure "8" after figure "8".
I feel like I have become competent at those two maneuvers to become a High-Level Beginner ;-)
Now I feel it is time to start practicing some basic Acrobatic....very basic..Loops & Climbing Rolls.
I think when I can become competent at those maneuvers I will be at a Low-Level Intermediate Class ;-)
After becoming competent at those two maneuvers I will move on to Climbing Split-S maneuvers and Horizontal Axial Rolls.
Once I'm competent at those maneuvers I think I will have entered the Mid-Level Intermediate Class ;-)
Next year I hope to have my LOS skills on par with my FPV skills....only time will tell.
Join me on this journey to become a competent LOS Pilot ;-)
After accomplishing this I will put together a series of videos showing all aspects of my Pilot Training to help those new to the Hobby get their Wings as well.

Build, Fly, Crash, Repair, Rinse & Repeat!

Happy Flying!
