It is a simple model but is giving me lots of fun, each flight is so slow .... The 300 MaH lipo gives 10 minutes flying time..... It is a calm weather flyer for early morning or evening.... an Indoor venue would be wonderful...

In 1995 i finally was able to buy a new G-Mark .30 Twin from a local owner. Many years before that, i bought the Model Airplane News magazine the G-Mark .30 Twin review article was scanned from..... I have not ran this twin, it was new in the box. It seems to be a jewel.

Adrian's model engine site and other websites have a very complete G-Mark company history.....

Yesterday i purchased this built from original Topflite kit Schoolboy. It is finished in dope. The Cox .010 appears new. The model evidently was built to hang up and enjoy, there has never been RC equipment in it..... I will fly this model, after setting up for electric. The unknown builder was a craftsman, putting my builds to shame.....

My Megow Super Zomby electric RC conversion was built from Model Builder plans and the original and retouched plan and article on Outerzone. RChoper Gene did a wonderful digital rebuild of the plan and article as well.The Plan Page original article was nice to reference as well.... The ready to fly model weighs in at 18 ounces and is a real floater... First flights were this spring....

Polyspan and minwax clear along with some WBPU red for trim was used for finishing.

For anyone interested, please touch the link to go to my RCcgroups build log for the complete story, including a nice landing in a treetop.... Don't worry, the plane somehow worked it's way down with minor damage the next day. Phew.....

1947 Maytag 72 twin cyclinder running (0 min 30 sec)

The link is to the running 1947 Maytag twin cylinder engine . Maytag was from Newton Iowa USA. The twin cylinder engine superceded the single cylinder engines and was the last engine Maytag produced. 1937-1952. My engine was sold to a lawn mower company with conversion parts from Leclaire Mfg co. I bought this engine in 1987, and restored it ~ 20 years ago.

All - the maytag was obtained 30 yrs ago, unsticking the piston , new rings , cleaning the carb resulted in a running engine. Then it went on the shelf for 19 years. Now it is still ugly but runs well again. Some new parts are on the way to replace whats missing, including a muffler.

Inspired to get another GHQ running, this time on spark ignition, I managed to my surprise found that this old " Q" fired off and ran steadily... A large " Ritz" prop was used , 50 % # 30 motor oil with 50% alcohol free pump gas is the fuel. The oil amount is to help seal the poor fits enough to run, it did not hurt. The engine leaked slightly from nearly every joint when running but the needle valve worked well enough to compensate for the leakage. Sometime, the engine will be taken down and the surfaces lightly lapped to improve those flange fits.

Many of these engines would not run when new because the instructions & illustrations from GHQ showed the ignition timer in a clock wise position. The late Bill Mohrbacher ( GWillie) youtube video helped save me a lot of time with his excellent information. For standard counter clockwise running, have the timer as shown in his or my videos. How many engines would not run " back then " due to this miss-understanding ????

It was satisfying to hear this classic actually run, the engine was notorious for poor quality....

The 1946 Detroit Michigan USA made Delong " 30 " spark ignition engine was a well made unit which was setting control line speed and free flight records nationwide. Dick Korda flew his Powerhouse 56 with the Delong......

However, not all was perfect with these engines as John Pond recollected in the scanned article attached..... A scan of a photocopy of an original instruction and parts list is included as well.

I am preparing my Delong 30 for some test runs on spark ignition with gasoline ( lantern fuel this time ) and will add to this entry with pics and video then.

I set up a portable ignition pack using a Modelectric coil, Tobe condensor and a 3.7v single cell LIPO battery.... The Brown Junior was purchased several years ago and was said to have been rebuilt. What better way to find out than with a test run or two ? Yes, the engine was exactly as claimed and was carefully adjusted to avoid overheating or lean running.

Regular unleaded pump gas and #30 motor oil was mixed to ~ 30 % oil ratio.... An old Top Flite Super M 13-6 was mounted. Needle set to three turns out and a couple choked flicks and the Brown started right up. They are a well made and easy to run engine, and a real classic. Sorry the videos are not to a high standard but i will improve on that That was the first time i have actually used gasoline in these antique engines - ~ 5% nitro 20% castor glow fuel was used to fly my RC1.

A long time friend had this Skychief and was obtained from him. The engine was in good shape except the crankshaft threads were destroyed and many original parts were missing. A parts Skychief was obtained from an RC groups fellow member and that engine provided the original needle valve / fuel tank assembly , crankshaft , spark ignition timer. The refurbished Skychief pleases me. The crankcase is very light zinc or such pot metal ??? the cylinder is very heavy cast iron. The piston has one ring of about 1/8" width. The piston was soaked for a week in ATF to help loosen the stuck piston ring on my Skychief.

The 1953 ? Japanese " BOXER " .099 glow is a very obscure marque ... See Adrian's model engine website for more info.. or Ron's model engine news for an article...... My engine is missing the prop drive and fuel tank. Adrian says an OK Cub .074 tank can be trimmed to fit and i will do that....

Scanned from my issue of the June 1940 Model Airplane News is the Burd KORDA WORLD RECORD HOLDER.... That is a lot of model for 29 cents ...... This model is not the 1939 Wakefield, but an earlier model which won Mulvihill. I built one for electric RC years ago, it is a fine flier.

Recently i acquired this 1940 ? Syncro Devices , Detroit Michigan, USA Syncro Ace Special spark ignition model airplane engine. Also, the 1938 Megow Models catalog yielded some interesting Syncro information.....

Seems the Syncro Saws may be more popular than the engines...... A second or third hand Syncro saw was my 1st saw - it did a nice job, but was extremely loud.

The Syncro B-30 and kit version PC-2 slag engines were art deco pretty, but did not add to the Syncro reputation in a good way.

I finished building the 66" Colt 35 under Sundancer George's Complete A Project ( CAP) 2018.

It got to fly it this summer quite a few times , so far... It just could not be a better flyer.

If anyone cares to build it - DO NOT USE THE FRONT WING MOUNT DOWEL LOCATION shown on the plan - change it to a typical dowel like i did, or your favorite system.... That was a mod after flying and having the wing shift.

The ready to fly weight is just under 5 pounds... Polyspan and Polyspan lite were used for covering, Nelson clear and blue Water based polyurethane and yellow tamiya acrylic paint was used.
