Cheetah Glider (10 min 3 sec)


Must be almost 2 years ago I converted this one . And never did a video ! Maybe because the maiden was as windy as all and shortly after launching it the wind gusted the Cheetah into a tree !

I have a telescopic pole about 5 meters long and I had to go home and get it so I could knock the Cheetah out of the tree .

It does not like a lot of wind , being all mild mannered and all .

With a Zippy 350 in the rear battery compartment CG looks to be good . Flight time looks to be good .

TX RC system - Is from my Joyways Crash Invader ( pictured ) It's mode 1 and very iffy !
But in the Cheetah glider it works ok . There was no way I could fly the Invader ( crash invader ) with that Tx .
So some changes were made ( new Rx / brushed ESC ) and it flies .

So I had a Tx and Rx needing to be used in something , so the Cheetah RC glider came to exist .
So there we go , it works . Some tweaking still needed .

A) Fit the battery better .
B) Improve the motor cooling more

It was time to return to the original wheel design, with a much larger diameter. It turned out the PLA hub has no meaningful mass difference from PETG, so it might as well be PETG for the higher temperature. This design had retaining rings glued on the hub, which were a disaster to glue on. A better idea might be diagonal overhangs. Then, there was adhesive to keep the tire from freewheeling.

It held the hexogrid tire on in an 11 mile drive. Power consumption with 1 new tire & 1 old tire was 254mAh/mile with 14oz of food.

Getting such a large clamshell to keep the wheel in place is tricky. It might be easier with a traditional block of infill or spokes. Lions just hate having any material which isn't visibly appealing.

Here's a 2 meter whisper repair I did,by making a mold of the airfoil from an undamaged portion of the wing to make a replacement skin piece to graft in without using foam or any fillers on the outside. Why the F-23A? We all know that the F-23 lost to the F-22. The F-22 had corrections and modifications made to it to become the production airplane that now exists. The F-23 had also planed for production changes and would have been made into the F-23A. The most visible changes were additional length of the fore-body, revised air inlets, refueling socket, running lights, and some aft-body shape changes due to engine changes.

This model is made from the xxxx kit of the F-23. There is a good thread at xxxxxx discussing the stock model and it's flying abilities. There were several problem areas associated with this model. Namely that the supplied landing gear is heavy and the balance point is hard to reach without adding nose weight. I was impressed at the packaging of the model and the way it dry fitted together. I was disappointed in the supplied fans (light weight copies of early Wemotec 70 mm fans. I had bought the bare kit and it held several things that I did not like. I didn't receive any servos and felt that since the "pockets" were close to HK 900 that I would like better servos. Along with servos was a real problem of servo/extension runs. The servos would have to have short (1 inch) wires. The extensions would be built into the plane with no access. In other words get the wiring right the first time because once the body gets glued together there is no more access. Here are a couple of teaser photos of my build of a F-23A. Today is the first time I've put the plane together this far along. Still a ways to go before paint.

Micro Tundra with Stunt Flaps (6 min 28 sec)


So I did the mixing a little while ago and finally got to test fly the MT with Stunt Flaps :

Stung Flaps

The flaps are mixed to the elevator , rates are dropped to about 30% for the mixed flaps . Flaps move in the opposite direction to the elevator .
What I am after is increased lift when the MT is on it's back . I am trying to tune out the attraction to terrible firmness that the flat (?) bottom wing has .
And it looks to have worked a treat , more than enough authority to keep the MT on it's back .
Just need a very nice wind free morning / day to fly the MT on it's back .

I have an unfinished Focke Wulfe 1990 D-9 by PICA. Don't know what to do with it nor do I know what to sell it for. 65" wingspan, 730" area - for 4 to 6 channel radios and .60 engines. Choose from 3 versions (stated on box). Kit RC - 3 1st place winner at US National Champs. Parts made: wings, and fuselage. Any suggestions? Throw out, sell, put back in the rafters?

Well, she flew just fine......until I hit a dirt clod on the runway and sheared the blades off both fans......I knew the fan intakes were low, but I thought I had enough clearance....Oh well, I'll go back to putting the fans higher on the airframes....live and learn

5 miles went down like a brick. The webbing kept the tire from sliding 1 way, but the adhesive did nothing to keep it from sliding the other way. The result was part of it sliding away & part staying in place. That rules out farstening at any single point. Too bad TPU can't stretch like rubber.

Been putting off upgrading the camera controller because it's so rarely used, but it definitely needs an amplifier.

I've written a basic guide on the cheapest brushless setup that I'd recommend for the 144001. I've been beating on this car for a few weeks now and can say that the setup is robust on 2s. Advantages over stock are:
  • 60 km/h top speed
  • much faster acceleration
  • Double battery life (about 15 minutes vs 6-8 stock)
  • Much more durable due to less weight in a crash
  • Bettery for jumping and cornering due to better weight distribution
