M2/Heliflight3d/TX16s set up

Here are the files that I set up on a Radiomaster TX16s transmitter for my M2 with the Heliflight3d FC, along with a brief description on how they are used.

Transmitter model file, M2 HF3D.otx
Timer 1 is a count up flight timer (telemetry will warn of low bat), reset on FC disarmed
Timer 2 is used for total model flight time

flight modes:
TX switch SE changes FM
flight modes set separate cyclic and rudder rate/expo values,
and IU1 and IU2 set a flat throttle value which can be varied by S1
FM1, normal, throttle uses curve CV1, collective curve CV4
FM2, idle up 1, throttle uses GVAR5, collective curve CV5
FM3 idle up 2, throttle uses GVAR5, collective curve CV6

throttle hold and arming FC:
Throttle hold is set by TX switch SF, goes active in combination with the throttle position.
Throttle will only go active if switch is set and throttle is low (must be below -50 or 25%).
The flight controller is armed by switch SG

Other switches:
TX switch SH (momentary switch) will activate rescue mode
Rotary knob S1 will vary the throttle setting in IU1 and IU2 by +/-30 (15%)

Global variables
GVAR1 - cyclic rate
GVAR2 - rudder rate
GVAR3 - cyclic expo
GVAR4 - rudder expo
GVAR5 - throttle value for flat curves in IU1 and IU2

lua script instructions

The lua script 'main.lua' should be put under 'WIDGETS\HeliAll'
It is set up for a large screen as on the TX16s.

The script relies on the following to be set up in the model file:
Global variables
GVAR1 - cyclic rate
GVAR2 - rudder rate
GVAR3 - cyclic expo
GVAR4 - rudder expo
Logical switches
LS02 - throttle hold 0, active 1
LS03 - flight controller armed 0, disarmed 1

Close to maiden time for my winter build. I joined two Sig Kadet Senior Sport Arfs with a 14" center wing section and custom tail section and landing gear.
It's powered by 2 - OS 55 AX motors. I kept the original SIG red covering and added feathers, stars, numbers and stripes in a quasi-Thunderbirds paint scheme.

In this video I just took my ZD-Racing MT-8 outside around my house for a little test run! It's my first 1/8 scale rc car so it's all fun to me! Btw, the streets here in Japan are quite narrow so I can't go at full speed!

Lions 1st had a need to replace the retaining rings on confuser fans after lubricating them, 20 years ago. Then, there was a need to replace the retaining rings on motors after rewinding them 10 years ago.

Finally, wheels were no longer staying in their bearings at all. It may have been the temperature or the position of the wiring. After debating the solution to this for decades, it was time to pick any idea & try it.

The 3D printed retaining rings are .8mm thick & made of PETG. This might be a hair too thick, with .6mm being optimum. They still seemed to retain the wheels against a level of force which previously pulled the wheels out. Only some driving will reveal if they work. The next step would be printing .6mm rings. Then there would be drilling a hole in the shaft & securing a shaft collar with a cotter pin.

There is a plan to eventually let these motors burn out & replace them with larger motors that cost more than a hoverboard.

Tech 1000 DLG and the sink hole (12 min 8 sec)

It has been over a year since I flew the tech 1000 DLG .
At the time I was wondering why it flew so fast and why it come down so fast . Ok @ 199 grams it's heavy for a 1 meter DLG .
Some investigation showed that the angle of attack of the wing to centre line was in the negative .
This would explain why the T1000 was flying fast and why I had problems slowing it down .
It looks to me , like this is how the model was intended to be . Now in a situation such as - A slope ! With lots of lift .. This could be ideal !
But as a pure DLG , me ( Me ) thinks not . I will say here and now that the T1000 is probably an excellent slope glider .

Anyways , I put in some positive angle of attack . But over a year later ! And I finally get a chance to test it out .

A) Still tends to fall out of the sky ( 199 grams )
B) Took some effort to re tune .
C) Might need to tweak that CG , getting the T1000 to cruise is not easy . CG might be to far forward ?
D) T1000 will most likely never be a good DLG
E) But hey ! It glides much slower now . Just no hang time !
F) At 93 grams , my Elf is half as heavy .
G) Oh - the pain ! It's been such a long time since I did DLG and it hurt like a SOB . My whole body was a Ouchie ! This was a few days ago and it still hurts .
Do we hate getting old ?

Today I bought a new Night Flight Module from Amazon for my Hobbyzone Super Cub project! Total paid was...

$199.99 (T-28 Trojan PNP)
$FREE (Shipping)
$18.99 (Tax @ 9.5% )
$218.89 (Grand Total) I got an email from RCG about a thread I subscribe to for the Duraplane T-28 Trojan 1100mm and a member posts 2 links here... to the Banana Hobby website (see screenshot below...) saying they are selling 2 versions of the Durafly T-28 v2!!! so I created a new thread about it here... which has all the specs about this plane.

Now, I've been waiting for Hobbyking to either come out with a new color scheme (since I really don't like the Centennial Edition ) or re-release the popular Red/White scheme. I've searched RCG's classifieds and have sent countless PM's to members to see if they have sold theirs but came up empty handed. I've even had a search saved in eBay so if it ever comes up there, I'd be notified...but not one alert. So NOW I FINALLY GET A CHANCE TO OWN THIS AGAIN PLUS IT'S UPDATED TO HANDLE 4S AND IS BASED ON THE VERSION 2 MOLD OF THE DURAFLY WITH DIVE BRAKES, FPV, ETC!!!!

Yes, there are others, like the Eleven Hobby, Dynam, Airfield, even E-flite which make ones near this size. Eleven Hobby is probably the closest match to the Durafly but it doesn't have any navigation lights. E-flite's T-28 this size doesn't have nav lights either and I never liked that the cowl is all foam so it would look horrible after any bumps/crashes. Whereas a plastic cowl can...Continue Reading

For those of you that like to print your own decals, Avery now has DIY Decal Vinyl. It's crystal clear and accepts Inkjet ink....
You have to water proof the ink, but in the long run it'll save you from having to buy custom graphics. Available at most
office supply stores.

I put a KFM2 step on half of each wing of my Swallow EPP wing. It now flies faster and smoother. Amazing difference. Getting 9 minute flights on 3s 800mah lipo.
Also cut a bowtie around the prop and it reduced the whine by a lot.

I had so much fun with the Skylane I pulled down another treasure from my garage for the next day's project / fun
A Bill Evan's design, this one just needed to have the radio gear and a motor installed
Once again Enya 45 and Futaba gear
With no landing gear this was a hand launch plane to add a little extra potential for excitement

Once again with the Enya purring away ,a gentle push and she was away ...
Another nice flyer, loops, rolls , nothing not to like

After the outing on the 16th the wind turned off and even acted like early summer...
What to do ...first off I am not complaining about 60 to 70 degrees in the middle of March
Needing a challenge, and something different to put some effort into - I remembered a couple of planes that had found their way to my garage many years ago
Possibly last flown in the 60's or 70's , the Carl Goldburg Skylane is a classic and great flyer....might a hint of that greatness still be found under the dirt and old duck tape ?
Here in the north east some of the hot rod guy's are building their cars and then distressing the paint so it looks like it has been sitting in a junk yard for the last 50 years ,they are referred to as "Rat Rods" ...How about a Rat Plane ...especially since vermin have spent some time in this old girl

The idea here was to do the bare minimum of work to get her back into the air and still be safe
So standard Futaba servos were installed for control {3 chan }
A Enya 45 was mounted for power {it probably last flew with a .19 to .35 }
The old duck tape was removed {the old wind screen } and replaced with clear packing tape
The covering that was falling off the stab was removed and replaced wit 1.7 laminating film {I cover most all of my slope planes with it and wondered how it would do on a powered Balsa plane }

It took me a day from start to finish to have her ready, once cleaned up a bit the plane actually displayed quite a bit of craftsmanship-...Continue Reading

Yep Les Amis,
