The one big weakness is the GPS in the Solo. Mine was really horrible out of the box. After doing the cardboard mod (but using electric tape in place of cardboard) and some better shielding, it was better. From 5 satellites in a few minutes , too 10. But this still falls way short of my CX-20s. They would go from 5- 15 after shielding.
This may be a defect in my unit but it completely loses GPS about once every 10 minutes. This is sitting in the yard without having the props on or even the motors running.
I have shielded the entire area under the "Smart" battery (smart = more noise), power wires, and GPS cable. I don't expect a lot now partly since my GPS is the dreaded Revision A.

Since shielding the GPS cable and power connector there has been zero GPS loss!

Edit: It does lose GPS but about once an hour. Every time it is only about 1 second loss. Vs the 10 seconds before the cable MOD.

Frankenstein Jolts to Life!

This won't be a complete build log, as this plane has been around for nearly a decade, and plenty of people have documented their builds. This log will just cover custom modifications I am making (or just completed) for those interested in that sort of work.

I completed the Jeti Anti-spark Connector/Arming Plug installation last night (at 1 am), so I had to try firing this baby up as a quick test of the complete set up: the quick connect battery tray (see separate build log), the ASC arming plug, and the newly soldered leads on the new FrSky RB10 redundancy bus. Results? As soon as I pressed the arming plug into place, the Castle Creations ESC sang it's little tune. I flipped off the throttle safety switch, advanced the throttle, and for the first time (in the plane) the massive Xpwr 60cc motor came to life. It's alive!

More to follow, along with photos.

Just like title says, I have a Snap On Traxxas X Maxx 8s limited edition brushless RC truck for sale. Like new condition. Comes ready to drive right out of the box. Over a $1300 value but you can take it home for only $1100. Not a thing wrong with it. Just don't have the time for it like I'd like to and have other hobbies I'd rather spend my time on. My loss your gain especially being a limited edition. Only had out of box for maybe a couple hours. It's a beast and plus it's only 3 weeks old. Can do anything you ask it to do. Waterproof. Super tough. Can self right itself with just the push of a button so that you don't have to always go running for it when its flipped over. Can go over 50mph. Does wheelies with ease and even has a wheelie bar! Won't last long so come get it while you can and save money at the same time. For more info call or text. Thanks!

Comes with everything in the box as well as a battery charger and 5c 5200mah 50c batteries.

If you have an Android device 4.3 or higher chances are the 3DR Solo app will run fine. 3DR only lets you download from the Play Store if they checked compatibility. I am running the app 3DR Solo_v2.4.0 apk on an Asus TF101 with an android 6.0 ROM installed from XDA. Also running on a Galaxy Note 1 with Android 5.1 from XDA. Even if your device has 4.2 or earlier you can often get a newer ROM at XDA. This app lets you get the Solo APK or PM me for other options.
Raccoon APK Downloader: http://www.onyxbits.de/raccoon

Backup your data first. Go to Settings/Security, and check "install from Unknown sources", for this to work.

In 2016, Horizon/Spektrum introduced "SAFE Select", a new variation of their beginner-oriented SAFE stabilization system. SAFE Select is based on the AR636 receiver, which has proven to be very versatile for a number of applications based on the way it's programmed by HH.

A feature that was new with SAFE Select is the ability to adjust at least some of the settings in the AR636 using the Spektrum Programmer software (SPS). Prior to SAFE Select, the programming on SAFE receivers was completely locked out despite the fact that the AR636 is normally programmable from a phone app or the PC software.

================================================== ================================================== =
Edit - January 2019

What's in this thread?

The information in this thread has evolved quite a bit since it was first opened in June 2017. Although Spektrum still hasn't provided all of the tools to fully configure the SAFE features on an AR636 receiver, I've brought a lot of information together and developed a programming tool for SAFE with an AR636.

The information in post # 2 is an "old" way of manually changing the SAFE settings inside a text file that comes from SPS. That has been replaced with the program in post # 4.

Post # 5 contains some model setup files (SRM files) that provide a good starting point for configuring your own SAFE model.

If you have never installed a receiver with SAFE in another airplane, or you're new to SAFE,...Continue Reading

Hello all,

we made a hotshoe adapter that is compatible with different cameras and can be used with Pixhawk for logging actual triggering positions ( you can configure the Pixhawk to log camera triggering positions based on camera hotshoe feedback instead of logging based on camera trigger command. ).

Adapter can be also used with other logging devices ( like our GPS logger, MK, ... depending on cable used ) that can log based on external contact trigger action.

Adapter on the pictures is made from ABS ( also available from aluminium with 2x M3 threaded holes that can be used for attaching fixture or Ronin MX gimbal ).

Here is the link to item

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask.

I just uploaded my maiden flight with my GoPro attached to my MJX Bugs 3. I am pretty impressed overall with how this little beast handled the extra weight.

Back in the air after 29 years. This time with my own design. 8:56 on a 720mah battery. 12:20 on a 600mah!! Probably because of the lighter wing loading.
