I always hate when I get to the end of a build. I feel so.....bored. I'll have to find another project to start.
Yes, you heard correctly. the 2nd Antares boat is finished. I am waiting for a convenient time to take her out for her maiden voyage on the "high seas".
This is my 2nd foam boat build and this time I went a bit bigger in scale. This boat is 30" long. I used a Reedy FireHawk motor. I think this one should be quite a bit more powerful than first one.
This is my first time building a "commercial" type boat. This boat was originally used as a patrol boat. the version I built is an adaptation done by Victor Smeed.
Although the hull and basic design are the same as the patrol boat, it has been altered for a fishing vessel.
No big guns mounted to the bow deck and no extra cover for the center area where the doors are. The build is in the "Dock Talk" forum and in the thread called "New Foam Boat".
I know this will sound pretty weird, but I think I enjoy the build more than play time after. Don't get me wrong, I love running my creations, but would be a lot more fun if had some other people to join me. The local clubs have restrictions about being a resident in their community, to be in their club.
Well, I might consider making something for daughter. She isn't too much into boats though. Who knows, maybe I'll try my luck at a sailboat. I don't know how to sail, but might be a great challenge to see if foam board construction can hold up to the stresses imposed by a sail pulling against the structure. I don't know for sure yet. Stay tuned for future announcements.
I am open to suggestions also......Anybody?
