...I'm back!
Well, more back to the future in this case... so far, the MQX has been cloned only in the mechanical layout and general concept. No one ever dared to clone the canopy shape as well... until now. So new paint schemes have starting floating around the interwebz giving the much reviled MQX canopy a second chance.
So i've decided to give it a second chance as well. I sat there, looking at it for a looong time, trying to find out what was wrong with it. What was it? Many things: the two fake motors, the fact that it was so large that it was interferring with the prop wash, and so on. But still... if you looked at it in its general shape, the main outlines, were kinda reminescent of a sport car mixed with a sci fi dropship.
Mmmh... CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.

Here i give you: the Blade MQX Original Canopy REVISED. More paint schemes will be available upon request.

Hello guys After years of honourable service my trusty depron Vampire finally bit it (actually, it bit a tree trunk at full throttle nose in), so i'm left with a handful of servos and a BL motor. What to do? Mmmh... Now that i've come accustomed with 3d modeling, I've decided to create my own design... well, almost. KFm2 wing (kinda sorta) one sheeter... if it flies, i'll post plans
I'm going slightly maaaad....

I've had requests for paper canopies that would fit microquads like the ladybird and the WLToys V939. Although I do not own one, i've been helped gathering all the needed measures to make educated guesses on the size and shape of these things. They might work with just some or all of them... guess you'll have to experiment and see if they work with your quad, and eventually adapt the boom holes to your need (i have provided references thou). Enjoy!...Continue Reading

I don't really know why i bought this helicopter. It gots raving reviews and a pretty enthusiastic community here on RCG, and i was just looking for something that size that was relaxing to fly at the field after i've crashed everything else i had in my inventory . Point is that... well it gets me frustrated. Even after extending control throws to insane levels, it still has a sluggish response and flies like a drunken cow. Probably my previous heli experiences spoiled me . Anyhow, i decided that the stock canopy, while being ok, was not personal enough for my taste so I cobbled together a few custom designs - that of course i was happy to share. Now, looking at them again after some time, i realize the cheesiness of some of my graphic choices, so i added a clean template for the creative inclined to make their own versions. The "ridges" on the front are meant to be cut out in order to improve main engine cooling. Oh, btw, feel free to try to adapt them other helicopters in the 250 - 300 size range; if you succeed, let me know. Here's my stuff:

The other designs

Once we've covered the main stuff, let's take a look at some other, "minor" designs.

This is the "Alien" canopy, that i have designed on request, here on RCG, for a design inspired by the Ferrari Museum in Dubai:

So i started working my 3d tools and got this:

Available in two variations:
Ferrari badge and colors
Unmarked

Be careful as building is a bit complex.

Then I went on to make a fully cowled canopy, based upon another popular RTF quad on the market:

Ok, all the canopies I've published so far, were meant to be printed on paper using a computer printer, cut out, glued together and flown
Some general directions:

- Unless otherwise stated, all canopies are for the X configuration. + configuration is better for learning, but it's the X one that's where it's at. Don't worry + fliers, I've got something for you as well.

- When printing, make sure to print them with a 100% scaling (actual size). Otherwise you'd end up getting something larger / smaller than intended, hence not fitting properly.

- The little black squares are where you are supposed to punch a hole for the booms; you can either cut them out with a xacto knife for a snuggle fit (pro choice) or punch them out using paper hole punchers, or belt hole tools, or whatever you see fit . My suggestion is to apply a little square of transparent tape on the back of the printed part before cutting, in order to strenghten the hole for extended life.

- To further increase the canopy life, you can spray a couple of light coats of transparent paint. Something with a rubbery consistence would be preferred, in order to avoid cracks under stress (crashes ).

Later on, when i can find time, i'll try to make a real tutorial on how to make a new canopy from scratch. Stay tuned...

The Fighter

As I said when I first presented this to the general public, this is probably the canopy design that the MQX should have been presented with in its first release on the market. Sorry, I really don't like the original canopy, probably they decided to keep the price down by saving on the designer's paycheck... given they even hired one in the first place.

And then I went a little creative on this one...

I hope these are enough for everybody

The REX

Ok, i'm a little bit of cheating here... this is just a repaint of the TDR template, giving it a little bit larger "canopy" area, and by chance higher visibility for orientation purpouse. So without further ado, here are the downloads:

Complete Mess of Acid Colors
Shark!
A little special for the V929 crowd...

Hello, i would like to start my blog here on RCG with a recollection of my canopy designs for Blade MQX, which happen to be also perfectly compatible with WLToys V929 (I wonder why ).

The TDR

An evergreen among micro heli modders, the TDR is based upon a very popular design. The only difference is that this one is made of paper, and it was never meant to replace the real thing (if you can lay your hands on one, do it! They're great).

So here we go:

And here are the download links:
