Progress on the Fi-156.

Five pounds so far without motor and battery. Wing struts are the last two pieces to fabricate, then covering and finish work.

90" span Fi-156. Using my own plans.
Shooting for 7 - 8 lbs with a 4020 motor and a 4s 4000 battery.

Tested a 16/6 prop for about 800 watts and 52 amps. Thrust was well beyond what will be required for this plane, but the prop size with managed throttle use will make a great scale flying plane. Using pink foam, fanfold and balsa/ply combo to keep it light.

Scratch build 90mm with wemo evo fan on 8s. Scale outline with a 40" ws and 58" length. Target weight is 7#s and should be able to hit that when finished. Paint progress...slow but making some ground.

Progress:
Cosmetics needed: Cowling valve blisters addition and paint. Wheel pant paint and fuse stripes. Srtut paint.

First flight was on Sunday May 20. No issues and very happy with the results... balance is at 23% and dead-on. Flew about 7 1/2 minutes on 4000 6S cell. Stalls were straight and it slows nicely for landing. Final weight is 8 1/2 lbs - about one pound over my target.

Airframe less motor and battery - 5 lbs 4 oz
Working on strut covers, landing gear/wheel covers and finishing glassing of ailerons.

Scratchbuild of the clipped wing version. Right at 1/4 scale with a 70 inch wingspan. Airframe and wing using fanfold foam, ply and balsa.

Weight of airframe/wing only - 2 1/2 lbs at this point.
Fuse will be covered with ultracote and wing will be glassed with .75 oz cloth.

Power - Monster 60 and probably a 5 cell battery set-up. Need a little speed as it is a racing version.

Cowling is fiberglass. Struts will be next on the list.

5 lbs rtf...missed my target by 8 oz.
Going for the racing look with a small canopy and straight wing tips. Scale details will be added after the first flight.

Initial flight was on Saturday evening. Best first flight I've ever had! No issues. Flies great on 3 cells and a bit faster on the 4 cell set-up.

Added paint and a few airframe panels. Airbrushing is next. The canopy is too big for my vacuum box and is giving me problems with the pull. For now the mold is good enough to fly with....
