I know-I know ! I'm againt foam-I'm against ARFs- but I never say "never' !

Flying buddy Gene wants me to do the assembly of his new H-9 PA-18..He's not a builder,so I got elected.

I don't BUY ARFS ,but I will asemble this one for him.

He went all-out,and bought all the options,so it'll be top of the line.We intend to do whatever is possible to make it scale,if it isn't already.

We expect delivery around the 27th or the 28 th,November.See you then.

The Engine Masters not only tell you it won't work...They tell you why...That is so important to the learning process, what works and doesn't is an excellent tutor tool.

We've abandoned the heli drive for a belt drive Getting the prop to turn the correct direction was important, and the belt reduction is the bestter choice.

I'm trying to enlarge a 32" Sparky rubber powered model to 114"....I have some of the framework completed but I want to turn a LARGE prop.
If every thing scaled properly,I'd need a 43" one. to be properly sized.

I got a .60 size helicopter drive system which is geared 8.5 to 1...
With the engine turning around 8,500 r's and the prop at 1,000,it seems possible..

I need to build up the prop like miniature wings, with strong spars and maybe foam cores, sheeted and glassed.

I don't know if it'll work,but I ain't skeered to try.

Please take what I'm saying to be infomative rather than a history lesson...Many years ago a Piper PA-18 was damaged, either by wind or an accident,I'm not sure.anyway,by the time the broken and bent pieces of the cabin were removed,Jack Poage and Ned Surratt had this bright idea to "improve"it.Well, they moved the wings down to the upper longeron, about shoulder level, and shortened the darn things to about 28 feet.Since the top of the rudder was damaged, they just fiddled about with it,and came up with a kinda Corbin Ace-ish affair that was attractive and purposeful. They shortened the wing struts and added a sorta windshield/canopy to hide Ned.They painted it white with some red and blue stripes and called it The Midwing Special. It does have an attraction,I'll admit, that I'd always wanted to model it.Neil Snodgrass beat me to it,and cleaned everbody's clock in the ?80's?in stand-off scale. He still has it ,and although it's for sale, you prolly won't buy it.Good work Neil.Enough talk for now.Watch a 15 minute video at WWW.2000 Air Victory Museum Air Fair" Later.click "comments"for picture.
