Thought I'd post a quick update on the progress my daughter has made with walking.

She has been walking for several weeks now and is doing really well with it. Her gait has become more natural. She still struggles to navigate obstacles.

She now greets me at the door with her brother, Raymond, when I come home.

She has gained a lot of confidence about herself in general over the last few weeks. We hope this will help her with her other disabilities.

If you watch the attached video you'll see her doing a lot of pretending. She has a tremendous imagination. She currently enjoys playing the role of a Kung Fu master who doubles as a spy. Her former boss, Baker, was recently fired and replaced by a woman with a codename of "Ladybug". This is good for Camma as her former boss was a bit of a tyrant. I know all this because I receive detailed reports when I come home from work. There are new stories each day about the difficulties of her missions, personal relationships with other spies, and Kung Fu techniques that she has gained from a full day of defeating evil minions. Camma's life is a web of intrigue.

I reviewed the earlier video and noticed her hair and thought I should explain. Camma wore dreadlocks until recently. Her hair is kind of wiry and difficult to control, plus her scalp has a number of scars from many surgeries, so the dreadlocks were helpful in covering up both problems. On the day we shot the last video, her hair was quite a mess as we hadn't done the usual dreadlock maintenance recently. Since then we've combed out her dreads.

I know it is weird for a 6 year old girl to have dreadlocks but Camma is not your typical 6-year-old in any category.

I finally got to fly my EZ Star with my modified camera mount using the CVS Camcorder. It did very well just wish the video was clearer. But, I guess for $29.95 I can't complain too much. I did find out that the CVS Camera doesn't like to be set on high resolution, (640x480) since it locks up and won't record. I had to reduce it to 511x420 and now it works just fine. After seeing some of my flying buddies past and present make entries to their blogs, I decided that I would start working on mine....

If you haven't met me or flown at one of the sites that I frequent... I will give you the lowdown.. I started flying in May of 2003, just a few months after I got out of the Air Force.

My first "real" job was at Allied Aerospace working on VTOL UAVS. I was really blessed to work with some of the greatest guys, most of whom were great pilots. In particular getting tips and coaching from Jack Chambers, Larry Jolly and Dave Yost (a very funny guy) who taught me that "if the minimums weren't good enough, they wouldn't be the minimums" LOLOL. After a huge reduction in force (RIF) @ Allied, I got a job working at L-3 Communications. I started out doing avionics mods on H-1's (Hueys and Cobras). After about a year of being stuffed in a tailboom most days (you should see a tub like me, feet dangling), I put in for a salary position. For the last year or so I have been managing the H-46 project, first at Miramar and now at Camp Pendleton. I enjoy the work, and especially like being around an airfield all the time... My boss is great, and there is always some sort of challenge that has to be met..

As far as flying, I started with a lil' electric, and then got an electric wing... once I figured out that you could fly without motors I started building and flying gliders.. I went from a Raider, to a moth... to another moth.....Continue Reading

I have reduced this part because it came out Bla, Bla, Bla. I thought I would let the models do the talking. it should be more entertaining any way.
In a nut shell.
9 years old, Free flight rubber power.
11 years old, first free flight design
15 years old, control line stunt.
20's RC boat racing
28th. birthday, my first four channel radio. Three trainers and one motor later and I soloed.
I started numbering my models so my trainers would know how many models I've been through learning to fly. (excluding scale subjects)
From there I kit bashed every thing I touched.
I'm up to 200 models built. You might notice that every article I have published there is more than one model. This is to make sure I don't have a poor design out there.
It is gives me the perfect chance to test the patterns and work out any bugs the design may have.
So. . . .I guess I design and bash my own stuff.

I prefer building with foam, it's faster, lighter and looks better in my opinion.
My foam designs have not seen much traffic so I wrote a book in hopes of converting a few modelers. It cost me about a year and three grand to get it off the ground and It's doing OK.
It's in it's 8 th printing now and being sold in the UK.

Here are a couple of my aerials from my SoarStar 3 ch. airplane. I think no matter how many planes you build and fly, aerial photography will always be fun and interesting. I have several sport and 3D planes that are a blast to fly. The SoarStar (and I'm sure many others) flies slow,smooth and can carry a camera really well. I can land it in a very small area safely and with a JR radio and brushless set up it has been very dependable. I've only been doing this for 7 months now. I look forward to traveling out of Florida to take photos elswhere.
I give thanks to Derick Velize who gave me enough info to get started in aerial photography from the plane, electronics and camera to look for. This guy has great talent in aerial photography.
If anyone has any comments, criticisms or photos to share, bring it, I'd be interested to see or hear.

Since my Overlord build is currently on hold pending the replacement of my RX from Hitec I decided to proceed with the construction of the Gentle Lady Glider. This will be my first true glider. So far I have the tail feather built and the fuse almost completed. I hope to finish the fuse in another day or so, depending on how much build time I get and then move onto build the wings. The kit has gone together pretty well so far with only a few minor problems. A few of the parts in the kit were split and had to be reglued.
Here's a few pics, I'll update and add more info later.

Well I moved the Overlord from the build pile to the workbench. I had all the necessary components to begin the build when a problem arose I recently received an Electron6 receiver from Tower Hobby that was completely dead on arrival! I decided I wanted to test the brushless motor that I got from JustGoFly (a 400T pusher) to see what kind of amps I would be pulling with the prop I had. I mounted the motor to the mounting bracket but not after some difficulty. As it turns out the mount supplied in the kit doesn't match up with the mounting holes on the motor so I had to modify it. No big deal as it only took about 20 minutes though. Once I got it mounted I soldered the leads to my CC Thunderbird 18 speed controller and connected the receiver. I plugged the battery (3S Etec 1250 mah) in (fully charged as verified on my Super Whattmeter) and I got the beeps from the motor. I tried to set-up the control per the instruction using the transmitter but got nothing I tried everything I could think of but nothing worked. I reseated the crystal and verified that it was the correct channel and that it was a dual conversion crystal). I checked all the soldered wires and everything else I could think of...nothing! I then plugged the whole setup into a GWS 6 channel RX and it worked perfectly fine. BTW - I was pulling about 12 amps WOT.
I called Steve at Hitec the following day and we tried to work through the problem. He thought it was very curious that I was getting no response what so ever. So my build is on hold until I get a replacement receiver from Hitec.

After sitting on the shelf above my work bench for just over a year I finnaly tossed it. It had been badly augered in during an outside loop attempt and really was beyond repair. I'd long since removed the gear for other projects and a couple weeks ago I was clearing the bench and needed some space so stood on the stool reached up and took it down. I held it for a moment, pieces dangling from my hand, and reconsidered repair. One wing cracked at the root, the cabanes ripped through the mounts, fuselage crushed to the leading edge, gear struts shattered, etc. I'd only kept it because I couldn't bring myself to toss it right away.

The little Meattray SE5 had been tons of fun to fly but had been very finicky to put together. The entire airplane was built from free materials - meattrays, egg cartons, foam cups, soda straws, bamboo skewers, and a tiny bit of scrap plywood - there was only time and emotion invested. Not even the linkage was worth saving and I'm a real pack-rat. My better half had been helping me decide I had been spending too much time on model airplanes lately so it seemed I'd have no time to even think about repairing it. I jammed it into the bin under the bench and continued clearing.

Last night was the night before garbage pick-up so I transfered it, uncerimoniously, to the big 'can' and lid down that was the last I saw of it.

I think I feel better now. Thank you.

I'll admit that my initial response to this blog thing was hey, why'd they drop the gallery? But, I don't want to be one of those people who are irrationally resistant to changes, so I'll give it a try.

Duration Over 10 minutes easy.

This one took a looong time. The landing gear installation took as long as the rest of the plane. By the time I finished it I wished I had built a bigger plane. Had to finish it or suffer recriminations from the wife for not completing another project.

The “Snowbird” flies sweet. The landing gear coupled to the flaps works great. There is virtually no elevator trim changes needed when raising/lowering. I have yet to wring it out because of retract issues.

The “dirty snow” camo has yet to be applied and the pilot needs to be painted. I guess this project is not really done and probably never will be.

Well, I had tuesday off as a kinda, "get over the travel" day after my trip to my Dad's place in PHX. I went out to Tick to try to test fly the Genesis. Veeeery still out there, just big thermals floating up the hill. I flew the Mach Dart and I was suprised how well that thing flew as an ersatz hand-launch. I say fan-the-rudder-servo on 60"ers, and I'm right...No rudder servo and it cored small thermals perfectly. Still havent got to wring it out at speed, but hopefully this weekend will have some promise-the weather is coming in.

Anyway-the Genesis. The lift was maybe 5mph, and very sporadic. I waited until the wind seemed to be near-peaking (has anyone here ever screamed those words? "I'm PEAKING!"...anyway...) and chucked it off. I was a little tail-heavy, probably due to all that Krylon. Other than that it flew beautifully, responding to lift as though it was a handlaunch with what-ever-that-syndrome-Abe-Lincoln-had...was. Anyway, you get the idea. Cored small thermals well, responded to lift RIGHT NOW. It signalled lift with its tail suddenly lifting noticeably. It didnt pylon turn as well, so that had me scratching my head, so maybe I need to try to program the non-thermal setting more towards a snap-flap, non rudder setting.
The landings was pretty much a non-event. I had taken a shot in the dark on the crow/ele settings, and got fairly lucky. Since there was nearly no wind across the LZ it landed a touch fast, but , sheesh, whats a guy gotta do to get 15 mph around here anyway? Cant wait to wring it out on an Eastside day. Ive flown Slopeflyer33's and its rocksolid. Glad I bought it.
