So It's been a year and a half since my last blog post. I think it's time to pick this back up. I've always liked blogging about my RC so I guess I'll just pick up from here.

I fell out for a while and wasn't really getting any flying in and not surfing the sites and forums like I used to. Well as it was time to get ready for eWeek everything came back and I was bit by the RC Bug once again.

Hearing everyone talking about it I got really interested in the Tiny Whoop. After Pricing it out I decided to go with the Horizon Hobby Inductrix FPV. With the parts I already had the Tiny Whoop would have cost me around $89 to build it on an inductrix frame. However I figured the $10 more to get Horizons Warranty was worth it. The Inductrix Came in today and I can't wait to get home to try it out.

But instead of recapping the last year and a half I'm going to stop here. :-)

I didn't get to spend a whole lot of time at the Nall this year. But the time I was there was well spent. First went out the 1st Saturday for just a day trip. Being my first Nall I didn't quite know what to expect but I had a taste of it during E-Week last year. I didn't want to go home by the end of the day.

The rain Thursday delayed my return until Friday morning, where I stayed for the day Friday overnight and left Saturday Morning. And now I am counting down the days until E-Week and Next Years Nall. And yes I did have the BBQ Friday night. $25 well spent :-)

My hangar grew a bit more over the weekend adding 3 new additions. Thursday I ordered an Ares Ethos QX130 directly from Ares and got the bubble blower attachment for it. I hovered that around and rained bubbles down on the kids, they had a blast!

I also picked up an Estes ProtoX and a Parkzone Mini Vapor BNF at the Nall. I say I got a good deal on those. Picked the ProtoX up for $35 and got the 2 AAA batteries for the TX and the Mini Vapor up for $40. My 4 year old son is looking forward to flying the Mini Vapor. And I've been having a blast with the Proto X. At work today and been flying it around the cab of my work van. :-)

Gathering up supplies as I can and getting ready for my first build. Plan on making several foamies from blue foam. So far I've got servos galore. A park flyer orange rx a couple ESCs I've got a brushed and brushless motor. Just need push rods and control horns. I hope to have one made up before I go to the Nall on the 15th.

Once again been a while since my last post. Lots of updates though. The new motor for the apprentice is in. But I'm not happy on how it flies. Currently have a 12x6 prop on a 1000kv motor using a 3s 3300 and 2200 mah batteries. I'm thinking of going to a 11x8 propeller to reduce the stupid amount of thrust it now has and give it a little more airspeed. Maybe even going to a 4s battery but I'd need to buy a charger first.

My UM T-28 has kissed the ground a few times. I think it now has more hot glue than foam on the front. Still flies awesome though I love that plane and will be buying more UM warbirds.

I bought a Blade Nano QX quadcopter to fly indoors. That thing is a blast and is quickly becoming my favorite aircraft.

I have ordered and received an Auto Gyro G2 but it came in broken I immediately contacted Hobby King and the replacement part is already on its way.

I will try to update more often.

Took the apprentice out today, it was crazy windy at the field but went flying anyway. For those that don't know I replaced the motor and ESC. The new motor puts out a crazy amount of torque. I was able to take off in under 5 ft. It wasn't super fast but the 10-15 mph headwind probably didn't help any. It took some dialing in but I think its going to work well. I did however notice that I was burning through batteries. While before I woukd keep throttle between 1/2 and 3/4 I couod get 20 minute flights. Now keeping it between 1/4 and 1/2 im getting 10 minute flights. Guess that means I just need more batteries.

Purchased a new addition to the hangar today. Blade Nano DX quad. While technically I bought it for my son. But ill get just as much if not more flight time in as he will. We flew about 6 batteries in it today. Its an awesome little quad. I have zero experience in helis or quads but it makes it easy to learn to fly.
My son being 4 doesn't do much yet. But hes getting better as the day went on. Hes a little nervous because he learned the hard way to stay back. Got bit in the nose but he loves it and watching him fly is just awesome! Ill get some video and share sometime soon.

The other day I decided it was time to expand my hangar. I went out and purchased a Parkzone UM T-28 Trojan. Now I know there are plenty of reviews on this plane so I'll skip the boring and make this a quick review.

I purchased the BNF version intending to fly it using my spare Spektrum DX5e. When I got it home I charged 1 of the batteries and went to Bind the plane to my DX5. I couldn't get it to go (Later found out the user manual for the DX5 left out one line in the steps to bind the plane) So I bound it to a Parkzone Transmitter I had laying around and took it out for it's maiden.

I was amazed how agile and maneuverable this plane was. But using the Parkzone TX it was sloppy and almost too much to handle. When I got back inside went to the Spektrum website and found the missing step. I was able to get the DX5e to bind and took it out again this morning for a quick flight before work. What a difference. It was much more responsive and a lot easier to fly. A much more relaxing experience.

For being a small plane it is very fast but handles like a dream. Even though I am no advanced pilot I can say this plane is not for the newcomer but would be good for more of an intermediate pilot such as myself. And best advice I can give anyone is Only purchase the BNF version and Don't waste your time on the TX that comes with the plane.

Being a cable guy this time of year always stinks. Super Bowl weekend is the busiest time of year for television providers and Overtime is always requested. I understand this, I've been doing it long enough.
BUT the weather is going to be perfect today, and instead of getting out and flying for the first time since the accident I am at work picking up some Overtime today and tomorrow......

On the bright side it's gonna put some serious change in my pockets

After teardown and waiting for parts everything has finally come in and The Apprentice is finally back together. Now just need to wait for the weather to cooperate.

Well not exactly. The crashing, that stinks. But it's part of the hobby. However it has given me an opportunity to repair and replace. Even though the damage wasn't that bad I learned a lot through the experience.

Damaged Tail- Repaired using hot glue
Destroyed Cowl- Replaced
Cracked Firewall- Replaced
Broken Servo- Replaced Gears within the servo
Separated Wing- No damage found, Reglued and slid halves together.
Stripped Propeller- Replaced
Busted Spinner- TBD (Only the cone is broken and that has been busted since flight one. I may or may not replace this.)

Just waiting on the new firewall to arrive and I'll be ready to fly again!!

So we all know what goes up must come down. Sometimes not quite how you plan though.

Went out to the field with my son got in a couple flights. Went up for number 3. Did a low pass over the runway. Started my loop and stopped inverted. The plan was to then push the stick forward, do an inside loop and end up facing the right way. Well the plane wouldn't come out of inverted so I went to roll out.. I guess I was still pushing forward cause I ended up nose first in the ground.

Lookong over the plane the firewall is cracked, the engine mount is destroyed, the cowl is shattered, the vertical stabilizer is broken in two places and the elevator servo is stripped. (Which I assume that is the reason it wouldn't flip over) and the wing split at its two parts. Guess its time to get to repairing.

On Friday I took a friend of mine out to the field, his sons love flying. So I brought along a few "Dummy" Controllers and we all had a good time. However I did manage to get my friend wanting to fly. YAY!!!!!! Well today he tells me the boss (His Wife) Says no planes BOOOOOOO. She doesn't want to get into the financial side of things. I'm trying to convince him to atleast get a cheap plane. A Champ or the like.

So I think it's time to get a fund going. Go out buy him a plane. If someone else buys it she cant say no

The forecast called for nice weather with slow wind. The weather is gorgeous for flying but the wind is gusty. Took the apprentice out for a couple flights but there was a nasty cross breeze which made her struggle when flying left to right. At one point I was full throttle and was literally standing still until I pointed her nose down and picked up some more airspeed. Being such a light plane she did not want to land, but we got her on the ground safely both flights. Now just hanging in the pits while my batteries charge and hopefully the wind dies down some.

Been a while since my last post so I thought I'd check in. Got a few more flights under my belt and I'm loving this hobby more each passing day. Problem is I'm now going stir crazy because of bad weather I havent gotten to fly recently. I got a couple short (5-10) Minutes in over thanksgiving weekend, but thats been it.

I have gotten my first real plane however An E-Flite Apprentice 15e. I've got it all assembled just waiting for better weather to go and maiden it, Friday look slikes its gonna be good. I'm so ready that it's already in the back of my SUV waiting to go out.

I have also finally got a copy of Real Flight so I atleast can get simulated flying in everyday. Practicing touch and gos. We'll see if I can land in real life as good as I can now land on the simulator.

My Son has started flying on the simulator, but at 3 years old he doesn't pay enough attention to fly the real deal yet.

Hope Everyone had a great Thanksgiving and I'll check in again after Friday!

Went to the field today and met with my trainer. We did a couple short runs and practiced landing approaches. He decided it was time. We landed. Got the plane ready. I took over, took off did a flight and landed without assistance! Happy days!

Though I was still attached to the buddy box he did not take over or make corrections. So yup today was a good day.

So I did take the commander out flying this past saturday... It flew like crap! Everything worked fine on the ground but once it was in the air it would not turn left. It also would climb wayyy to steeply. (the commander is a rudder only plane. Up and down is controlled by the throttle.) We made some adjustments and got left turns back kinda but still couldn't control the rate of acent. On the final run on the day the wind caught it and down it went. Nose first into the ground, even being a pusher plane the propeller shattered.

I got online and orderd a new wing, which was buckled pretty bad after the crash and a new propeller. and It'll be back to the drawing board trying to figure out what the problem is.

So one month ago today I crashed my plane into the tree tops and have been working ever since to recover it. Last night we had a lot of wind and was hoping it'd be down this morning. But it wasn't.

After the rainstorm today something told me to go check it. So as I approached the woods I could see something white on thw ground. Something that wasn't there before. IT WAS MY PLANE!!!

I brought it home looked at the electronics and didnt see any corrosion or rust. And there was no damage. Even after falling nose first 90ft. And the rubber bands holding the wing on snapping. I dried it out. Charged the battery and tested the control surfaces and throttle. Everything appears tk be working normally. I will test fly it tomorrow.

Here to hoping tomorrow is a good day. I have an interview for supervisor and a cold front is coming through over night, which means all the wind may knock my plane out of the tree.

Went for my 2nd lesson today. We were a little concerned about the weather but decided to fly anyway. Turned out to actually be a good lesson for me. We didn't get a lot of flight time in, but I got to experience fog, wind, damp air and a low ceiling all in one day. I wasnt the most comfortable doing it but it taught me a lot.

Also learned how to taxi and take off and got some practice in flying over the runway to line up for landing.

I want to thank my instructor Chuck for making this experience a great one and my father in-law Eddie for being supportive and introducing the hobby to me. I am loving every moment and get more excited with every flight. I hope this feeling never goes away!

Sadly I will not get the chance to fly again for 2 weeks but ill update if anything happens between now and then.
