so yes i have decided to make a shifty fully airfoiled. i started with the basic template i have been using to make my wings. so i sat there for a good hour trying to figure out how i am goin to get an airfoiled wing out of this. did my research online and found zaginutz website.
http://home1.gte.net/texhills/index.html

i read thru the whole site for ideas and yes i found what i was looking for.

first. i took the paper off of the foam by using a rod, teared and lifted the corner of the 20x30 sheet. i did this both sides.

then i traced the wing onto the peeled foam board, i left 2" all the way around except the leading edge of the wing.

i beveled the leading edge of the peeled foam wing, 45degrees

to make the airfoil . i cut a strip of regular foam
length 18"
one side height is 3/4 and the other 1/4in

and i followed the same technique they used in zaginutz

after that strip is glued. i started to glue the top wing .keeping the leading edge flush .

repeat same procedure on other wing.

cut the the middle excess peeled foam even with bottom wing

now added the spar

now its time to make the aifoil shape. first , i made sure that both halves are glued together. then i wanted to make sure both side are even shape . after thats done i started gluing everything in place.

so this time its time to take a trip to the store.
home depot.. strapping tape and 3m 77 adhesive

walmart.. colored duct tape-neon green for top and black for...Continue Reading

fast cat

this should be light enough to use a standard bw 1500 kv with an 8x4.3 prop
4 servos tg9e's with a 3cell lipo

just sitting pretty in the garage for a rainy day , not really in a rush to finish it and fly it.

dollar tree foam board 44 tensor

this took about 7 sheets of foam boards. im gonna put an eflite 480 1020kv motor with efilte 40a esc , 4 parkzone servos i salvaged from my typhoon 2, i think i will be running 12x3.8 apc prop

i still need to put the electronics together and get a couple of props and a prop collet for the motor

just got an idea.. why dont we strap an edf 54mm on shifty wing? and also put an airfoil on it...

so i strapped my old phaser3 fantom edf unit about a month on my version 2. it was an awesome flier, took a hard landing and the fan came right off.

so i was bored last nite and still have half of a box for readi board foam sitting there. i decided to revisit the wing and build a new one

this will be my version 3

shiftywingEDFkmf2

its 90% done, just need to put control horns in and cf control rods

Pulled some old templates today and decided to build a wing. I think its based on simple wing by gene bond and the swift.
This build was very fast indeed. I went to dollar tree store and purchase a handle full of foamboards. For thing delta wing I only used one sheet. Trace template cut and paint 10mins it took for all that. Waited about 5mins til paint is dry enough for me to handle and glue the 2 wings together using hot glue. I gave it about 1 1/2 in dehiedral because I wanted a slow flying wing,

Then the electronics are installed . I used a blue wonder 1500 kv with 8 or 10 amp esc. 8x4.3 gws sf prop. 2x turnigy cheapy servos. 800 mah 2 cell lipo.

Also added a 12in cf tube spar to keep the angle of the dehiedral on the wing. Cf control rods that was on my f22. Good thing about the rods are the length of em. It was like ment to be. A lot of people use ca glue to hold em but I always like to use hot glue and shrink tube, this way I can just heat up the glue and freely adjust control rods to trim the control surface. Can't do that if you use CA to hold it.

Maiden flight.
It was windy on the first flight. CG was way off. I think I had the battery 4inches back from nose tip.. tailheavy. So I moved batt on the nose. BaM!! Perfect!

Inside loops and outside loops are easy. Wing tracks very well. Rolls are ok since there's a dehiedral on wing rolls looks like a barrel roll.

Conclusion.
Its a fun cheap wing and I know I will be making more .maybe version 2 without dehiedral.with that I know it will roll better

Seriouly i f u have a bw 1500 laying around and 2 cheapy servos and about 45 mins to spare....build one.

the video
version 1
shifty wing.wmv (4 min 58 sec)

version 2 no dehidral
maiden flight

this is a carbon copy of dualsky breeze outdoor edition. i bought the kit as a template because it is made out of depron foam . i cant stand depron. in my opinion depron foam planes can cause alot of building time and money. i've had good luck with depron. But with epp its more forgiving.

so i traced it to 9mm 1.3 epp. used the carbon fibers that came with the kit. a couple of slight modification on the tabs since the thickness of epp is thicker than the depron kit.

no need to look at the manual cuz its basic building knowledge. im not goin with the pull pull system they recomend for this bird.

i am using 4 hxt900 for servos. this time dual servo ailerons

for motor esc prop combo.. i am using Hobbyking's combo
TowerPro BM2410-9T / 18A BEC/ 1047 Prop Combo

this is my favorite plane of all time. actually the REAL FULL SCALE. a huge fan of the red bull air race. soo its a must for me to have in the hanger.

this plane is still under construction. almost done tho. just getting lazy to finish it . just been too busy.

all it needs are the control horns for the ailerons. push rods for all control surfaces. all electronics are installed already.

i know it will only take me 30 mins to finish it. but that damn yak55 is just too much fun to fly around.

this is actually my second build. the first one did a nose dive ..ripped the foam and it never flew the same after repairs... so i built this one. v2

most durable foamie i have ever flow. in the years i have been into rc planes. i have built and bought foam planes. from electrifly series to scratchbuilt. this plane is the funnest to fly

i did everything within leadfeather's recommendation . the only thing i added was the string bracing cuz i wanted it to be as stiff as possible. and with that i got a very stiff 9mm epp foamie

my electronic set up

motor-
HXM2730-1500
hexTronik 24gram Brushless Outrunner 1500kv
shaft size-3mm diameter

motor mount-
