Top metal strap is used to engage the ratchet wheel. The screw on the left is loosened or tightened to cause ratcheting or no ratcheting. The V bend can ride over the ratchet “teeth” but will stop at the wire location. -

Big picture: Scratch + and - for battery polarity near battery plug. Remove battery. Remove all the screws on the back of the DX9 including the antenna screws. Carefully pry off the antenna shell and back cover. Do not unplug any wires.

I use an EMax servo from Heads Up RC. The servo arm hole should be the same distance out compared to the stock elevator servo. Use a knife/box cutter to trace around the servo on the left side of the fuselage. -

I’ve removed some foam using a small box cutter. The remainder is removed with a Dremmel tool. -

The elevator servo cable is seen here. The exhaust foam bottom has been carefully pried away from the fuselage bottom and will be taped back in place. -

Screws removed and temporarily placed full forward. The fuselage was placed on a flat table to see if angle of gear would cause problems with wheel pant angle and ground clearance. No problem. -

Adtech glue gun with high temp clear glue stick. -

A hard popsicle stick was cut and sanded to act as a compression brace to keep the landing gear from moving inward during crosswind landings. This reduces side loads on the U shape aluminum gear with out restricting battery loading. Hot glue was used. -

After glue was put on the gear and inserted flush with the forward foam bulkhead a check of the battery door was performed. Cut outs were made for clearance. No screws were used in an effort to reduce time and weight. Ground tests were OK> -

As and option the stock gear mounting area was filled in with the hardware that comes with the optional Valiant floats.
