For a good hamburger try:

-Ground Beef (70/30) or Ground Chuck (80/20).
-Start with a 2.2 oz. puck of beef and smash into 6-inch circle. Or something like that.
-Use Lawry's Seasoned Salt.
-Consider butter on bun and cheese.

This may produce a burger similar to Steak 'n Shake. I hope. (I have yet to try it)

Yep Les Amis,

Non...

We all know that that boaters crave for more power than cars and airplanes and ZTW has come up with a whole new way to put the power to the water – The new SEAL line water-cooling brushless speed controls for marine applications. ZTW uses new FETS that offer less resistance and less heat dissipated. Even so they added more water-pipes to increase the cooling area to dissipate the heat faster and better so as to bring a even more incredible power levels without any risk of frying the controller.

Well designed MCU with efficient code makes for faster sync and accurate control. Beside the performance they have also bring you a whole new fashion looking marine ESC.

...only to sit back on the bench two packs later. The first pack was spent on LOS flying during the shakedown after replacing the ESC board. On the second pack, I strapped on the goggles but forgot to turn on airmode. DOH! A hard crash upside down into some loose rocks resulted in some magnets rattling around inside motors 2 and 3. This is getting ridiculous.

This is one model that requires lot's and lot's of work shaping particularly the fuselage, wing turtle deck and fuselage horizontal tail area, no easy task with absolutely minimal printed instruction. Anyways I have lot's of building experience ie decades that have guided me through this so far. The short kit quality is excellent, providing everything else for the kit is up to you along with shaping in particular the fuselage stringers on both top and bottom of the fuselage bulkheads, I bought a hobby table saw just for that. Anyone with questions is welcome to reply. More to come as I reach the final stages of the build.

Hmmm , Yep ! ( I blame those sales )
I got me a XK X251 ( See Pic 1 ) , but this post is not about the quad ! But rather the battery and charger it comes bundled with ..
As well I am becoming a little disillusioned with many of the reviewers that are sent product on a regular basis .
So I will just have to take on the roll of the DEVILS advocate ...

If you look at Pic 2 you will notice the battery only has a balance plug , and the supplied 2s charger ( Pic 9 ) does NOT balance charge .. In fact it does a horrible job of charging and I would rate this charger @ POS ( Pic 9 ) . The only other charger I had capable of charging this battery is a half decade or more older charger that came with one of my first 450 heli bundles ( Pic 10 ... and yes it was on special ) . Now this charger also does not balance charge , but does a better job than the supplied charger ( Pic 9 ) .

I found the situation some what intolerable so decided to add a plug so I could charge VIA my hobby charger ( Pic 8 ) . The first thing to do was get out a sharp ( Thats very sharp folks ) knife to peel away the coverings of the supplied battery ( Pic 3 ) . What I had to do was get to the positive and negative terminals so as to solder on a plug . ( Pic 5 ) Generally I dont throw away plugs , I sort of collect them for just in case circumstances ( like this one ) . Pic 6

Pic 7 shows the completed job . We all know how to solder and we all know not to short the lipo ( Right ? )...Continue Reading

After owning a 1/6 scale piper grasshopper for a while I have decided to do some scale work on it .

The park flyer plastics dummy 4 cylinder is a very close match for size on the Maxford grasshopper
I am planning on opening up the stock cowl to expose the dummy motor

The 4 cylinder has just enough space for my custom motor mount and my eflite power 25 (1000kv)inside .

Kudos to Freewing for releasing a new series of smaller 64mm powered EDF jets. If the first two models to be revealed, the F-8 Crusader and F-105 Thunderchief, are any indication of how cool this series of jets is going to be, 2018 is going to be a very exciting year! The stock power system, a five bladed three cell based 64mm fan, places an emphasis on keeping the model as lightweight as possible. The thrust and power produced by the stock fan pushes the F-8 around the skies at a very respectable 60-70 MPH. Pilots who enjoy the thrill of the bash though may want a little more! FMS has a pair of eleven bladed 64mm EDFs. We decided to swap out the stock system for one of FMS' four cell 64mm fans.

The overall diameter of the FMS shroud is a millimeter or two larger than the stock Freewing shroud, requiring pilots to carefully remove a little of the foam inside the fuselage. Using a Dremel with the flexible wand attachment and a sanding drum makes short work of it. We had a Castle Creations Talon 35 speed controller lying around the hangar and so pressed it into service ... even though FMS rates their fan as needing a 40 amp ESC! Let's just say that Castle's controllers are legendary for their quality and performance ... and that they are slightly under-specced.

Here are the weight specs of both the stock and aftermarket power systems:

Freewing 5 Blade 64mm EDF Power System: Fan=2.7 oz - ESC=1.6 oz - Total weight=4.3
FMS 11 Blade 4S 64mm EDF Power System:
Fan=4....Continue Reading

I did the wing a flat plate, with just the motor pods mounted under the wing tips, and a modified front bridge/pod that is flat on the bottom to allow the rail guides/rail to clear the bottom. A 24mm motor tube will go from rear into the front bridge, and allow the wires to route through to the receiver/1s battery in the bridge with a small plate on the bottom to cover it up made of styrene. The 24mm tube will have a coupler the full length inside to reinforce it. This will be adaptable to a pusher parkjet if desired as well.

I've cut the pieces out, 29" long, 23.5" wingspan, around 11" at the root. I'll have an angled plate on top of the 24mm tube to give it the tapered look. I did add a single vertical stab for stability.

Here's what I'm using for the initial flight CG

Make sure you open the post en click on the read more to see the all pages. Otherwise you will see page 8 as last page, and not page 16.

O previously posted some analysis on DLG design in this Blog. After some discussions about smaller than 1.5 meter wing span DLG's possibly outperforming the full size ones on the last WC in the Ukraine, I dug up my old analysis, and worked on it a little to find out if I could derive the theoretical optimum span for a DLG. That is to say: optimum for maximum airtime in still air at a fixed launch speed.

It turns out that actually the current launch speed determines the optimum terminal velocity to design the plane for. So making the plane faster or slower with respect to this terminal velocity would lower the total airtime for this launch speed. A terminal velocity of only 60% of the launch speed would be the optimum design speed for obtaining maximum airtime.

Secondly, the maximum airtime itself can be expressed in the L/D ratio and the launch speed only! So, basically speaking, just optimise L/D and you will optimise maximum airtime (for the optimum design speed that is). The expression is quite simple:

t_(flight,max) ≈ 2 / 3g ∙ (L/D)_optimum ∙ √((L/D)_optimum ) ∙ v_launch

When entering an L/D of 12 to 20, and a v_launch of 40 m/s, the still air time will be between 115 and 245, with an average 180 seconds.

Finally, the question I started with. The expression for terminal velocity that you...Continue Reading

I have a spectrum serial race receiver and a dx6e transmitter and i am able to bind them but cannot get any signal from the transmitter and when I go into cleanlfight and the receiver tab and try and move the switches nothing happens but I am able to bind to it. If anybody has any ideas of what the problem is please tell me

So I decided a few months ago that instead of building another racing quad, I would try and build a fixed wing FPV model (cause i liked the idea of having flight times longer than 3 minutes ). I also quite liked the idea of using Inav as it would give me GPS flight modes and an OSD with a $20 flight controller and a $15 GPS module (waaaaaay cheaper than using an EagleTree Vector or a Pixhawk and a bit more up to date than a APM board).

For the airframe I will be using a Bixler 2 cause its cheap and im familiar with it.

Requirements:
FPV capable
Headtracking for the FPV camera
On Screen Display (OSD)
GPS flight modes e.g. return to home
20 minute+ flight times
Not super huge and expensive

Main Components:
Airframe: Bixler 2 kit (new colour scheme)
Servos: 8 HXT900 9g
ESC: Turnigy Plush 30a
Motor: Turnigy Park 480
Receiver: Frsky X6R
Prop: Hobbyking 8x4
Flight Controller: Omnibus F4
GPS Module: Neo M8N
FPV camera: Foxeer arrow mini v2
Video Transmitter: Fatshark 250mW
Video Transmitter antenna: MenaceRC Raptor Stubby Pagoda RHCP
