Yep, I finally took everyone's advice and bought the Taranis X9D transmitter with an X8R receiver. I also bought the Orange Rx DSMX/DSM2 module for the back so I could still use the 20+ receivers I already have.

No sooner that I got the radio, I immediately did the antenna mod for the module.
I like it better up top with the other antenna.

Once you get accustomed to the layout of the radio, and as long as you're halfway decent with a computer, this radio isn't very hard to learn the ins and outs of at all.

And if you have ANY questions on how to program or basically ANYTHING you need or want to do with this radio, there's a few threads dedicated to the Taranis and the people are quite friendly and happy to help you out if you get confused.

So that's that!
Just thought i'd share my happiness with all the fellow RC lovers out there.

I'm about to start building my Spacewalker ARF from HK over the next week or two. I'm going with a 4 stroke Saito FA-65 on this one.

Fuel will be CoolPower 15%
GlowPlug is an OS Type "F" (4 stroke plug)

I'll be using Futaba S3004 Standard size servo's all around.
It'll be on Spektrum 2.4ghz DSM2/DSMX via an AR6200.

I've been working on an Electrifly SPAD XIII. It's just about finished now. I just have to put the pushrods on the elevator and rudder and she's finished!

She's a really nice looking plane if I do say so myself!

I'm currently working on a Seagull Model Space Walker II (40 size).

I just took everything out of the box this afternoon and installed the motor mount. Everything else will begin shortly. I plan to get the wing 100% tonight, and if I have enough time, the tail section as well. Then tomorrow I can install the servo's in the fuse for the rudder and elevator, and then connect all the pushrods.

Once that's all set, I can run other electronics (receiver, receiver battery and excess servo wiring) as well as install the fuel tank and connect it to the Evolution .46 motor i'm using on this with a Master Airscrew 11X6 prop.

Overall, the build seems pretty basic. Nothing "difficult" per say that caught my attention, but who knows what i'll run into as i'm working on this. It's my first Space Walker so i'm just keeping my fingers crossed that everything comes together well.

I have a picture of the fuse and parts laid out on my garage floor. More pictures to come as the build progresses.

I have a Sniper EP from HobbyKing that was already partially built. I have it 95% completed already and really just need to install a good brushless motor and ESC to power this bad boy. I'm looking for decent power and speed but nothing too crazy. If I can average around 60mph to 70mph in level flight, i'll be more than happy with the results.

I'm starting to work on the Ugly Stick that I have here. She's a sweet looking plane and I have no doubts that it will be a lot of fun to fly.

More to come as I progress in the build!

I'm using a 3548 900kv brushless motor with a 60A ESC, swinging an APC 12X6 prop. I'm going to try it out with 2500mah 3 cell lipo packs and see how it does. If I need a little more juice i'll up it to 4 cells in the 3000mah range.

I'm building a DHC-2 Beaver with a Power 25 equiv brushless motor. I have the wings fully assembled, the fuse is 99% completed and it's just a matter of installing the servo's for the rudder and elevator and connecting the pushrods and control horns. And I have to bolt the wing down with the 2 nylon screws.

P-17 Stearman Kaydet (40) (ARF) Build Log "Red Baron"

I've been working on this one in my spare time for the past few days so far.
I have the bottom wing complete, with all ailerons and extensions finished.

The Elevator and rudder are 90% complete. Just need to finish the tail wheel and glue the rudder hinges in and that will be complete.

Electrifly Ultimate Bipe (ARF) Build log

I've been working on the fuse and got the FirePower 10 (3536-10) mounted.
The canopy is now installed.
I also have the cowl ready and the magnets set in place.

Once my 4 Emax 12g servo's come in, I can set up the elevator and rudder.
I have a couple of pictures of what i've done so far.

Hello friends,

As you may or may not know, i've been flying for a little over 10 years now. I fly almost anything, with the exception of 3-D and sailplanes. Well, that's coming to an end now!

I've already been experimenting with a few 3-D planes and it's lots of fun, but that's not why we're here today.

Sailplanes! The thought of taking a sailplane up to 500 feet (give or take) and powering down and being able to glide around for 30 minutes to an hour (depending on the conditions available) is absolutely amazing to me!

I've got the flying skills under my belt to confidently jump into a good sailplane like the Radian Pro, and it's a BNF version so I can bind it right to my trusty DX7 (or the JR X9503 i'm getting later on in the future).

I've already programmed my DX7 with the "full house" setup which is available HERE, to get the most out of this model (camber/reflex/crow/flaps).

There is also a really nice youtube video available for those who would rather "watch and copy" what that guy did to set up his DX7. (I'll post the video at the bottom of this post) It's pretty simple and only takes about 10 minutes to get everything ready to go!

So lastly, to all you sailplane experts out there who may be reading this... What advice would you give to someone just getting into sailplanes? I'm open to any suggestions or advice you may have to offer.

I've been flying for over 10 years now. Playing around with everything from high wing trainers to hotliners, and everything in between. I've "put together" plenty of balsa kits and foamy ARF models in my day, but I wanted to really go all out and take a sheet of that $Tree foam board and turn it into an actual flying plane!

Well, I started in the morning, and had it finished by the later part of the afternoon. I decided to keep it as simple as I could so I didn't get in way over my head with problems.

All in all, I think I did a decent job making a plane out of nothing but a sheet of foam and a picture of a average aerobatic plane in my mind. No plans or drawings what-so-ever! AUW is about 14oz to 16oz. I'm guesstimating.
The "Watts Up" meter says i'm pulling about 30 amps at 365 watts. I get about 3 minutes per battery pack. I get a nice gentle cruising speed at about 30% throttle, really good aerobatic power/almost unlimited vertical at just over 65% throttle, and serious all out ballistic performance at full throttle!

Let me know what you guys think!
