I think I understand why T-28s are so popular at the club. They're cupcakes to fly:

Good grief this goes way back to when Dad was alive!!....since then we have moved a few times... now in Tokoroa back in the Nth Island....

Hard to believe whats happening now in the world and here with the Corona Virus as New Zealand goes into a complete lock down tomorrow night!!! To stop the spread of the virus hopefully, as we appear to have the first two community transmissions of it, so its Made in NZ now....

I have been checking here tonite for info on wood build F5J and F3 type sailplanes for DLG type flying.....I like the look of the Fresh F3 RES model

Our currency has taken a bit of a hit with the corona virus and is around 0.52 for both the USD and Euro.....sp will have to save up to buy the kitset from Germany and start the build....

So I must get back into adding more updates here for a start getting my new GepRC CineQueen 4K running and flyin in our back yard here.... Currently its got the Rx bound to my FlySky FS-i10 but is setting off an alarm on the control board. I think I need to chec it in Betaflight to see if I need to change some thing there. I have also the arming switch set up but the only seem to have partial throttle now... I may have to check with Brce on his XJet YT channel etc..... Laurie

I didnt actually realise the blog posts came out in a single thread like that. I should have made one post for each topic! (thanks Sakitume for pointing it out!)

So, this thread will detail my learning to fly FPV, and acro mode. I had previous experience with RC planes, so LOS is not so much of a problem, no matter which direction the quad is facing (an instructor back in my RC plane days once said "when the plane is facing towards you, and one wing dips, point the aileron stick in the direction of the dipped wing", not sure if this helps anyone, but its how i learnt to control planes coming towards me).

Anyway, my Little Pilot goggles havent arrived yet. I am still using the ROTG01 single antenna receiver, on an OTG cable on my phone. I did a rough latency check (point it at a stopwatch, and take a high shutter speed pic of the stopwatch and phone screen to see the difference in times shown) and it came in at 0.1s latency; that is apparently bad with reference to proper goggles/monitors, but seems ok for general flying - i am not good enough to fly super quick, and plus my reaction speed is slower than that.
Initially i figured this phone + OTG receiver + $5 phone VR goggles would be a good cheap FPV goggle replacement, but there is a reason those VR goggles are only $5. Major blurring and the view is not properly aligned for left/right eyes. I soon found that i had a better experience just putting my phone in a holder and watching it from that. Except i didnt have a holder, so i would just prop the phone up against a coffee cup or whatever. Great until you need to go pick up your quad from whatever predicament it has gotten into. Also meant i had to have a place to sit my phone when flying.

Despite my little pilot goggles being possibly only a few days away, i decided to buy a transmitter mounted phone holder just now....

Feel no propwash and fast response.

Good throttle control especially slow and low, great for videography especially chasing subjects.

Extremely light with only 3.8g but durable enough compare same wight props.

Please help. I have the Taranis X9D Plus 2019 with Open TX 2.3.5. I have tried everything to bind with the S8R receiver. I have flashed the receiver with the latest software (tried both S8R_ACCST_V2.0.1FCC.frk and S8R_ACCST_V2.0.1_LBT.frk). Nothing works. Won't bind at all.
I would be grateful if someone could advise me.
Thank you

I have recently gotten more serious about a long planned collection of models.

I have been lucky enough to have a 34 year career (so far!) as a design engineer and model builder at Lockheed Martin in Fort Worth, TX, located in hiistoric Air Force Plant 4. When I started my career, the plant was General Dynamics.

My goal is to collect or build an RC example of every aircraft ever produced at Air Force Plant 4, plus a lot of the major and iconic Lockheed aircraft from the companies history.

Being a full time model builder for a LOT of years, I am not hung up on building each aircraft myself, at all. Particularly a lot of these, as I have been building models of them for a lot of years.....

Some are easy to acquire, some have to be scratch built. The eventual goal is to go to the field one day and fly the entire history of Air Force Plant 4, from the start to the present.

Starting with the first aircraft produced at the "bomber plant":

B-24 Liberator: I have a Flightline B-24.
B-32 Dominator: No kit or plans available in the size I want, which is about 80-84". This will a an original desgn, likely in
balsa, foam and vac form plastic.
B-36 Peacemaker: Current plan is to do one in. lightweight foam, rather like the one that Gary Jones did, possibly a
little larger, at about 72"
B-58 Hustler: Currently planning on building Keiths Spark's design from his Parkflyer...Continue Reading

Went out with a friend to fly a new spot. Tried to go as remote as we could, but lots of parks were closed thanks to COVID-19. Due to all the water and land it was also really bumpy. I managed to get a few minutes of decent footage, enjoy!

I can't take full credit for the design. Found a similar scheme here on RCG. Trying to regain my Monokoting skills that I had in my youth.

I put this together to show what you can do with these amazing sailplanes. I did some retuning on my BAMF and it's really tracking in the turns. One of my favorite things to practice is javelin throwing into micro thermals and riding them out. Video work all on my Samsung S10 head mounted.

Lots of stuff done, and encountered a small challenge on the way. The front window is distorting the view I already ordered 1mm plexiglass to conquer this horrible nightmare.

Body is almost completely painted. I am doubting if I should put on a semi-gloss clear coat for protecting the paint, or leave it as is and let nature do it's thing.
The hood didn't close properly. I chamfered the edges a bit and now it fits like a glove.
I've installed ultra bright led's for headlights, taken from a broken but high quality flashlight. This is going to be fun at night
Most windows are bolted to the frame, except the rear window. I think its a piece of lexan instead of perspex/acrylic. Very bendy and not too clear. To avoid glueing it in, as i might want to pop it out later for antennae or so, I took 1 mm styrene rod and made an internal frame. Now the window can be popped out the frame without too much trouble.

AND... I've managed to use a 7ch RX with PPM-out as input signal for my EzUhf No idea how I go from here. Maybe a long cable instead of this contraption works better in the end. But the idea of dropping the EzUhf on a roof, on a pole or hanging in a tree, to extend the range is an appealing idea. The Rx is 7ch, and my DX8 is, well 8ch. I have to test to see if the Rx is transmitting 7 or 8 PPM-channels. Edit***Well, maybe not:

Hi! Fairly new to this site, looking for some help.

Recently purchased a used Timber X from a friend. Had been crashed and was not flyable, so i took the elecs out and bought new wings, fuse, stabs. Put every single servo in the new plane the exact same way, centered them on a tester, all that good stuff. Didn't have any issues until i tried to bind yesterday. New file in my DX9, all the channel inputs are set up right, everything was set up exactly as it was supposed to be according to the manual. The tail servos were fine but all four wing servos are way off. Either maxed out up or down. Everything, trims, sub-trims, all that is zeroed and never been adjusted. Tried putting a 9030T receiver in it to eliminate Y-harnesses. Same exact thing. One flap and one aileron are completely backwards, and frying the servos trying to overextend. So i took the wings off, all servos at zero plugged into the RX, centered the arms and tried again. Same thing again. They return to way off, and twitch every couple seconds. A 9030 doesn't have SAFE or AS3X obviously, so there's no gyro that needs to be calibrated or reset or something. What am I doing wrong?
