I've never had a blog before. I got to thinking that I needed a place to air my thoughts, and realized I had this one, so here I go!

I've been building and flying for most of my life, ever since I was knee-high, I reckon. For the past 41 years I've been hang gliding, but I'm 65 years young and have decided to go on Sabbatical from HG. That activity took precedent over my model flying, so I'm really rusty.

I first got into RC flying in 1975, prior to then I had been flying mostly free flight models, and they were all sport models, with the exception of a 1/2A (.049) Orbiteer, a big floater, and a 1/2A Mini Pearle, a smaller hot climbing airplane. They were both equipped with Cox rotary valve engines and a Tatone fuel shut off timer. I used the simple fuse type of dethermalizer.

I flew in one contest only. On my third flight the dethermalizer didn't dethermalize. I chased the plane through fields, woods, over and under fences for close to 5 miles. It flew at an almost constant altitude, I think around 250 to 350 feet, and finally landed right smack dab in the middle of a large pond. I stripped and went swimming, got the plane back, and then just sat there and air-dried for 20 minutes or so.

By the time I got back to the field everyone was gone, the day was over. I haven't competed, in a formal way, since then.

The sparrow has "fit and finish" next to none. Camera angles printed along the vertical pod mounts, antenna tubes, battery mounting gummy, quality HGLRC F4 stack, RunCam Micro Swift 2, powerful 1408 motors and a case. While the Micro Swift 2 features an OSD, I think its a miss to not include the flight controller with an OSD. FC OSD provides very useful flight information we can't get from the camera OSD.

Its powerful and fun to fly. As 3inch models come "en vogue" this should be included in your RTF shopping list.

The big brother to the tiny 6 the Tiny 7 frame is likely more durable and can house larger 7mm motors which will provide more thrust. A really good starter drone for someone in your life. As with many KingKong quads it does not feature an OSD, to me that is a large oversight in the market. The Tiny 7 features a fully programmable flight controller and the ability to use with many micro receivers to fly with your favorite controller.

The Toad 90 is a rare quad in that it doesn't require tuning to fly well. Of course we can tune it to make it fly even better, but as I said, not required. The 5 bladed props make the quad feel like your driving in the air, it tracks very well. But with that many blades the props are very inefficient. If flight time is your goal change the props out with fewer bladed props.

Just in time for Christmas a fun little "toy" quad that emits music as it flies. When the season has passed we can remove the speaker and add an fpv all in one for some fpv fun.

If your looking at SPC Maker products, this is the only one worth purchasing. The others I have reviewed have serious faults that make them either unflyable or require the components to be transferred to another frame. This one too has a slight fault, the vibrations are serious enough to require a looser tune.

I will not be posting the other SPC Maker products to this blog, if your interested in seeing the faults please see my channel

This a Flight Review of the 2S 550 BabbelBatt Lipo Battery in my E-flite UMX Timber STOL RC Plane with AS3X. The battery is much longer than the BabbelBatt 330's I normally use in my UMX RC Planes, but the huge battery bay makes that a non-issue.

The best part of this video is getting to see Mt. Baker with a fresh layer of snow on it in the background in several shots taken by my buddy John.

E-flite UMX Timber STOL RC Plane With AS3X - 2S 550 BabbelBatt Fight Review (5 min 51 sec)

Review Notes:

- The bigger battery helps it handle wind even better
- There is plenty of power for all kinds of flying
- Long flight times

- None for this battery that I can see at this point

Ok , I bound the XK X6 transmitter to a futaba Rx micro quad ...

A lot of folks might wonder just how you would go about that when the Tx has no bind button .

Apparently the XK transmitters go through a quick bind process when you turn them on .. ( remember this )
So take your Rx , and get it into bind mode .
Then turn on the X6 or X7 transmitter .
As the transmitter boots it will go through its bind process and bind with your Rx .
Turn of the Rx and turn of your X6 / X7 transmitter ..

Now you have to turn on the Rx first , then the Tx just like with a lot of micro quads N stuff ..
If you turn on the Tx first , you will not get a bind . ( Because the Tx needs to go through its bind process on starting )

So there .. ( Hope this helps )

Recently I've been pushing out my limits of my TBS G2 setup. A couple months ago I managed a 3.8km to the top of a stratovolcano here in Chile. Then last week I managed this flight.. 5.2km to the top of a 4000m peak, Volcán Campanario, located on the Argentine-Chile border. Amazingly, this was all flown with Skyzone goggles and a VAS Crosshair. I tried with my ImmersionRC Duo5800 v2, but that crapped out after 4.4km.

One Battery: TBS G2 - 5.2km to Volcán Campanario and back. (8 min 16 sec)

Well, funny how two kids, a house, and a job can pull one away. My oldest son just turned 5 and I am starting him up. We got introduced to the Flite Test planes by a friend, and we are starting to build the Squadron up. FPV and drones are also looking amazing with the advances in technology. I am looking forward to some good times with my son and hopefully the rest of the family. RC planes will also hopefully double as his science and technology and aviation courses at some point. I am also working to get his litttle group of friends set up as well. I still remember firing up .049s and the smell and feel of the fuel. That was the coolest thing ever as a 5-7 year old. Also, the plastic Cox control line models, which I wish I still had, we equally as cool and a good way to start out.
