This model has a tow release fitted, and working, and 250mm electric spoilers that l fitted, which replace the existing outdated letterbox spoilers. It has a low wing loading of only 15 oz/sq foot.Maiden flight went well on 6/11/2011,off the slope.Added extra lead to the nose,to balance at 60mm,wing loading is now 16.5 oz/sq foot, total flying weight 2.9 kg.Flys well, and is very stable.

I acquired a southern sailplanes Kestrel 17 kit, nearly 2 months ago,and are still building it.This glider is the biggest span model l have, the closest to it is my S2G-ASW 27,with a 4.20 metre span. The Kestrel 17 is one glider that has eluded me for years,l first saw one fly in 1980,and have always wanted to own one, luckily now l do.Once l complete it,l will post a pic.I completed the kestrel 17 on the 25th of sept/2011,here it is-after many many hours work.UPDATED-MARCH 2013.I finally got around to maidening the kestrel 17 off the slope. The wind was strong and l was nervous,as l had spent approx 60 hours to build this model. It launched well, and climbed upwards quickly. It took a while getting used to the feel of this model,at one stage, both outer wing panels bent downwards, out of a turn, and this is due to the washout built into the wings-it doesnt need any. This luckily only happened once, and it recovered, afterwards, after losing height as well.Anyway, the landing was due,and after applying full spoilers, the nose ptched downwards about 60 degrees,so l quickly retracted them, and applied alot of up elevator,to bring it in level. It was not particularly easy to land, and next time l will apply the spoilers for a very short time,to keep the speed up,with less pitching down.
THE KESTREL 17 HAS BEEN SOLD.

I purchased a 3 meter ARF Bird of time,it only needs 250mm electric spoilers to be installed, to complete.I will use a heavy duty high start-flat field thermal,l have fitted the towhook.I will also slope it,good for those light wind days, where other models will not stay up.I am fitting spoilers which are a necessity for this model, its a big floater-over 1000 sq inches wing area, and only weighing 1800 grams-flying weight.I will post a pic, once l complete fitting the spoilers. It has an all moving stab,a HS 82 MG is in the fin to operate the stab, the rudder is controlled by a HS 422 standard servo in the cockpit. It has no ailerons or flaps, only three channel.

I am in the process of fitting Graupner spoilers-370mm in length,to my DG 808S-4 Metre scale slope glider. This model has no spoilers, only flaps.A y reverser lead, and two HS 82 MG servos are required to fit out and metal threaded rod and metal clevises-dubro.Total cost to fit out is $190 Australian Dollars. The flap servo well will be used for the spoiler servo.UPDATED-21/3/2011-GO TO COMMENTS

I am awaiting delivery for a Discus 711-4 meter semi-scale glider, via EMS airfreight-ETA-12 days. This glider is cheap, but has 440mm spoilers pre-installed,and it will be a slope only model.I am going to strengthen the entire cockpit, wheel cavity area with epoxy resin and woven cloth, and install a dubro 2.75 inch fixed front wheel and a dubro tail wheel-25 mm diameter.Hitec HS-225 MG and Hitec HS-82 MG servos will be used.I will post some pictures once it arrives,it will be built during the winter months-year 2011.regards damoUPDATED-9/12/2010-IT ARRIVED TODAY-Everything is okay, nothing was damaged in transit, the spoilers are free working and sit flush to the top of the wing,in closed position. The fueslage is thin,l have removed all the cockpit formers already and the entire cockpit will be glassed from the nose to the trailing edge, the formers will be epoxied back in,etc, after glassing.OVERALL-Happy with it,big straight wings, big wing area,no warps, spoilers are great, the fueslage is the only negative item-too light a lay up,this will be rectified by a proper lay-up.Other mods will include tailplane mod and wheels to be fitted, nothing to hard, looking forward to working on it.I will post some pics when l get around to it.regards damoCompleted this model just before christmas 2010

The final flying weight is 3913 grams, wing loading 22.98 oz/sq foot.Apparently the roll rate of the DG 808S is mediocre,so coupled ailerons and rudder is what l have got, with full rudder throw.I have also worked out a better throwing technique using two hands,my left hand will below the cockpit area and my right hand at the base of the fin. With a strap for the transmitter,it leaves both hands free,it should be okay to launch by myself, using this method.

Everything is in the fueslage box required for flying-extra ballast,CF rod, electrical tape for the winglets, scissors, rubber bands for the wings, tailplane, winglets.I also added cardboard chocks to stop the fueslage sliding from side to side. The wing boxes only cost $10 including a reel of tape, and they are strong-cheap & practical. They fit in on an angle between the seats of my small 4 door sedan, and by moving the passenger seat forward the fueslage box fits no problem, and by putting the back seat down also. The transmitter and 12 volt swallow charger go in a separate flight case, and l can charge transmitter and receiver batteries at the slope. It was worth spending the extra time making these boxes, and it only cost $10 for everything,by using the original kit box and outer as well.I can now load the car in less than five minutes, and charge batteries after flying for one hour.I am using 2100 mah batteries for the receiver-varta fast charge-15 minutes-4.8 volt battery pack.I built a charger facility so l can charge 8 varta batteries at once,as my futaba 4exa uses the varta 1.2 volt batteries also.
